I've got a millett SP-1 it has a 3 MOA dot.. How small of a dot is to small for target shooting at 5 and 10m? Would a 1.5 - 2 MOA be to small?

The smaller the dot you have the better off you will be.  A 1.5 - 2 MOA will do you well  but still might cover the 10 ring/bull at 5 and 10 meters.  I think it also depends on how good you eyes are.  Without glasses most of my red dots tend to star and be fuzzy at 5 and 10 meters.  Young, healthy eyes usually don't have that problem.

My guns still shoot better than I so a 3MOA dot is fine for 5M &10M shooting. Use the lowest power illumination necessary to reduce flaring and ghosting of the dot. If you do experience any of these aberrations, carefully choose where in the dot you will take aim and zero the gun at that point. Like any other sighting device, repeatability is the key to success.

On my SP-1 I've been messing around with it and have it turned on 5 and that seems to do good for me. Any higher and it starts flaring on me probably due to my eye sight, I have astigmatisms in both eyes and need new glass's, haven't had any in about 3-4 yrs now so I think it's time to throw out the oldies and get some new ones.

Sucks to get old, I say!  3moa dot for 10m works great for me.

My Mueller has both 3 and 5 moa dots. I pretty much use the 3moa dot as I figure smaller is better as long as I can see it.
