Because you have probably close to 200 other guns that you can mess with/mod. And you basically know that the 2289 is a pretty good shooter out of the box. I would maybe shim the pump arm just to say you did Something to it.

I could see not doing allot...    But it at least NEEDS a good crown,  trigger job, and steel breech along with a REAL rear site!!

Now,now, no trigger job, it won't be "bone stock" if you do a trigger job. My sons 2298G came with a really nice trigger on it. Did not do anything to it and shoots really well.

I'm new to air pistols, so I don't mind sounding ignorant.  Why would Hogrider want to compress the trigger spring making it basically a heavier spring?  A heavier trigger pull would make it harder to shoot accurately.

Compressing the spring actually makes it lighter/shorter and lightens the trigger pull. I prefer a thinner spring from Ace Hardware myself. They're 50 cents or so.

yep your right you know I still have a bone stock 2250 that I never touched and it shoots great.

Tater's got it right. I just put the spring on a philips screwdriver and compressed it as much as I could, stuck an empty .22 casing in the top and got a trigger I was extremely happy with. Both my 2289 and 1377 worked so well I didn't even try to find a lighter spring. Picked up all this info on this forum. What a great place to hang out.
