What optical sight should I get? Zero experience with scoped pistols!

Hi guys. My custom shop 2300KT is here and my 6.5" TKO is on the way. I want a good value priced optic of some sort but so many options! I don't know if an open reflex or tubular red dot or even a traditional scope will serve my needs best. I'm hoping for some recommendations of what works on well on these pistols.

I plan to mostly plink spinners and reactive targets with it from 10 to 20 yards, may try ratting with it but those shots would be closer like 5 to 8 yards usually. The ratting option is not a requirement if that complicates the decision.

PA sells this Walther and it is probably my default choice. I already have these weaver adapters and will double-check they fit my pistol this morning (some say they  do, some say they don't fit). Is the Walther the same as another brand I can get cheaper elsewhere (many seem to look exactly the same)?

Custom 2300KT x1 $123.88
Base: Base Assembly x1
Breech: Long Steel Breech x1
Barrel: 10.1" Crosman Barrel (.22 caliber) x1
Muzzle: Blade Sight x1
Grips: Standard Plastic Grip x1
Optics: LPA Mim Rear Sight x1
Trigger_shoe: Silver Trigger Shoe x1

Thanks for any input!  :-*

the walther is a good choice for what you have mentioned . the open reflex sight will give you a better/larger field of view --- that would give you quick target acquisition for ratting at the distances mention.most dots and such aren't super accurate for paper punching accuracy but great for spinners and the likes. if looking for real accuracy, a pistol scope would be the best choice

I've got a Mueller reflex on my 2300kt and love it. The dot assortment is pretty much the same as the Walther. I use it at 5 meters with no problem with target accuracy I have also used it on my 1377 for the 10m benchrest comp and did pretty well. Just wish I shot as good as this setup is capable of. I like it also because of the light weight, scopes tend to get a little heavy but that is just my opinion.

I can't remember if it was you or somebody else who recommended the Mueller in another post. I like the Mueller brand but last I saw the Mueller was twice the $ and I couldn't see much to justify  the difference.

Just so I understand - do I get any magnification out of a reflex site? A little would be nice, not sure if needed at my distances? Just thinking about how I usually use my rifle scope at 6x for them even at the close ranges. I could go for less magnification but typical shooting ranges with the rifle is 5 to 20 yards and it comes in handy at the longer distances.

I just checked those  UTG spring mounts and they do touch on the bottom, yet they also seem to grip correctly. In fact they seem a little cheesy because those tiny rods that slide inside are smaller than the hole they go in to so there is some movement. I'm hoping that isn't an issue once I get a Weaver mount clmaped down tight over them. They seem to grip more than it touches although there is no air gap visible, but I'm going to stick with them and see if it feels stable when I mount up whatever sight I buy.

I use those same adapters and don't have any problem at all. The sight mount spreads out the pressure and they hold quire well. Just tighten the sight base slowly and evenly because of the shape of the Crosman breech and you should have no problems.

No, there is no magnification from these sorts of sights, but then you don't need any at the distances you are discussing.  Accuracy will be good at those distances, particularly given that you have a choice of reticles to best fit your use.  I have a Browning Buckmark reflex on my custom 2240 and routinely shoot 140+ (out of 144) on the 5 meter benchrest targets used in the CAPOF competitions.

Basically the only real difference in the 2 sights is the Mueller has an automatic mode for the dot brightness.  It works quite well though. There is no magnification to these but like farrlarr said you really don't need it. I pretty much just use the half crosshair dot setting on mine. I like that one as it kind of gives me an idea if I am holding the pistol level.

I like red dots on pistols and have had a fair number of them (Walther, Barska, TruGlo, Millett, Ultradot, BSA, Tasco). For target shooting I prefer the 1" tube. For general shooting, pesting and plinking, you can't beat a reflex red dot. The Walther is a nice, dependable device. My latest red dot is a no-name reflex style sight shipped to me from China. It works as well as more expensive units. I figure if you pay more than $30, you will get a capable sight.

I couldn't wait so bought a Tru-Glo brand reflex sight here in town. It mounted up and works OK. The dot is 5 MOA (only option) and looks all weird shaped but I guess that is my eyesight mishaping the dot? The rear of the sight overhung the loading port but not enough to be a major hassle. A smaller dot will be nice when I get the Walther from PA - think I'll return this Tru-Glo.

Hey - is the Walther just one color? Red? I have found I prefer green dots and reticles.

bgmcgee

Does the tru-glo have adjustable brightness? If so turn it down until you can barely see the dot that might help.
