Ok guys,

This has been on the back burner for a while now, just didn't have time for it.  Now I am making time for it, as my wife wants to get into shooting and wants something she can shoot as well.  Being as I have an RWS 350 pro I am working on shooting, she is wanting something she can shoot as well.  I was looking at the discovery rifle, only to really see that it was nothing more than a 2240 running on HPA....atleast to me that is what it looks like ( please chime in if I am wrong )  Now I know that the valve is different in the discovery and the 2240, though I can buy an aftermarket discovery valve if needed.  What I am looking at is getting an HPA bottle possibly with a fosters fitting ( to keep from having to remove all the time ) along with a drop tank adapter.  Along with a high rise breech and what not should be able to get something light weight and cool looking as well.

I know the parts that I will need are the drop adapter, the HPA tank, pump of some sort to fill said tank, and the valve.  Anything else is just going to be extra's.

So the main thing I was wondering was.....is there really a huge difference between the Discovery and the 2240's?  Would it be better to get the discovery and make that a bottle fed rifle, or just use the 2240 that I have now and use that?

Any help would be great.

I've been thinking a lot along these same lines. What I do know is that you will be surprised at how heavy a 2240 conversion is when complete even with the hollow stock. Weight might be a tad lighter/heavier than a disco, but I almost can guarantee that it will cost more.

I am building a hpa pistol right now, but when I decide on a rifle/carbine it will be the disco or p-rod. The disco has a lot to offer. Co2 or hpa, sleek looks with a wood stock and you can't beat the price. I can easily sweeten up the rough spots of the disco into a quiet and accurate shooter for target shooting or hunting.

Ok, so I guess my vote is for the disco.  :D

lol .... yeah sounds like it    ;D

The thing is though that I really don't like the look of the disco much.  The stock to me just looks to small and goofy if you will, and the air chamber just looks tiny.  Was thinking that with the disco valve in the and a 3k psi tank that is regulated down to the 2k for the valve, one should be able to get a ton of shots with it.

Though then all that would need to be done with the disco would be the drop adapter and a tank......would redo the stock either way.   hmmm

Many have done the qb78/79 over to bottles as well. A little different looking stock to work with.

Skip all the initial build stuff and get a Disco from the git-go.  You will be very, very pleased and will have a gun that shoot better than a converted 2240.

the qb drop tank is not recommended for hpa use by the site that sells it

i used a jds drop tank with a 2300 build. it had a 13ci tank and it was heavier than i like. instead of a 2240 start with a 2300 then you will have a stock, steel breech and if you choose a stock 18" barrel. for all that its the economical way to go. plus there is no roll stamp on the tube. even having the 2240 already by the time you get a steel breech, stock and longer barrel you might as well get a ccs 2300
personally i would go with a disco. you can lighten it up by putting the grip frame and 1399 stock on it and power can range from 10fpe to +100fpe

Sounds like the disco is a better start.

Now just need to sell my 350 pro to find this project.

thats a solid plan there
i think for just the tube, adapters, machining, power adjuster, bottle came up to $200+ not including the trigger group, breech, barrel and bolt/bolt handle. it would never be as powerful as my disco. plus there is a disco double that is basically another tube of air for added volume.
i get about 9 shots with my disco plus 2-3 follow up shots. i need a double tube ;)

Just something about the qb conversions. Been done many times with great success. Archer Air will be releasing its own hpa model some time this month.
Here is a good thread on it;

i saw a 2240 with the qb adapter regulated at 1200psi seemed to be ok. then i saw several that failed under hpa. its all in the machining of the tube i guess ???
i have yet to see a jds adapter fail under hpa. just wish it had the needle inside like the qb adapter.
when i built my oogie boogie gun it was something i wanted since finding out these guns get modded. the thing i didnt count on was it being front heavy. the 88g co2 air source cart weighed more than the ninja 13ci bottle filled to 3k psi.
this time around i think i might do a disco double or even a 2260 double would be different

With the Archer adapter the mounting hole are too close to the edge of the tube.  I drilled and taped 2 additional holes in the space between the o-rings.  I ran my bottle as high as 1900psi with no failure but I wouldn't go over 900 output using the stock hole locations.  The Archer AR2079 custom has the stock 2 screws on the end but it also has a couple of screws that go thru the stock and thread into the adapter.  So there is added holding power to keep thing in place. I run mine at 1100psi and don't plan on going any higher.

If it's not broken then modify it!

i run mine with a xs79 gas block at 1200psi which is the max i'll go

Makes sense as I built 2 co2 bulk fills using the archer blocks, but I was only running on co2. Definitely would add the second set of retaining screws to it if I ever went hpa.  :-*

But then didn't someone say that they wanted a grenade launcher? :D  In this case it would be a bottle rocket with uncontrolled release capability.

I think I would just go Disco and be done with it. It's already 2K safe right out of the box, TKO makes a brake for it, and will machine your fill cap. Filling to 2K is easy with a hand pump, and even simpler with a Scuba tank, just be careful. Like a couple of others have said, these can be tuned anywhere you want, just choose your caliber, and if you really don't like the stock, there are several aftermarket stocks, or if you're handy in the wood shop, why not give it a go, and make your own custom stock. That way, you still have a working gun to use, while you customize a stock to your, or maybe in this case her liking. I have also seen these in referb at a greatly reduced price several places on the net. Plus you could drop a WTB ad, and see if someone has one they would part with, might even be able to do a bit of trading, or wheeling and dealing.  I have built a couple of bottle fed 2250's using the disco valves. One has the bottle on the bottom of the stock, and the other at the back. PM me, and I might be willing to part with the bottom mount, which has a pretty good balance.

Just my thoughts, I went for the M-Rod, much more money, and it's quiet heavy, JMHO.
