The embarrassing pic

Yesterday I  let my X use my credit card to go help deal with a small emergency and was a bit distracted (by the emergency not my x having my card) while installing my new 1399 pump handle on my 1322. well today the 1322's  steel breech showed up so I went to put  the barrel and it on.

WHat does this pic tell ya? :-[

Someone put the right pump arm on the wrong gun................

I am actually pretty happy with the grouping it should get much better.

The Daisy 853 barrel weight/sight is very heavy and I will be drilling it out  to substantially reduce its weight.

the barrel band needs shimmed it allows to much movement, between the two I expected worse groups.

The first five well they were very wide because I was not very careful knowing that the barrel needed a few shots just to settle.

I am confident I will get it sorted in short order and should be hitting  the quarter size spots very consistently at 20 yards.

I expect it will do well at 25-30 yards also.

velocity @ 12 pumps with the 10" barrel was 505- 512 fps so I figure velocity is now close to 550 fps @ 12 pumps.

the power mods I am considering are

porting, the angle one  for better  flow and maybe enlarging  a bit (not sure yet so maybe)

sleeve the front of piston

check piston cup valve fit, adjust and shim if necessary  (I bet it is close to optimum though  judging from stock performance)

Stuff piston and jury rig wipers/oilers

increase valve volume to  about .13 cubic inches

this will give a barrel end psi of 224    assuming 1000  psi in valve

with a stock barrel and valve end psi is 208    assuming 1000  psi in valve.

am hoping that will get me to the  580-605 fps range?

I think it just might be a sign that it wants me to make a walnut version.

I have some fancy or plain maple or cherry also but walnut and stocks are just "right"

Today was a bad news good news day as far as the 1322

@ 10 pumps I only gained 10 fps
@ 12 pumps  5fps

??? ??? ???

The good and in 34F weather

but I think the new configuration has settled in

First was the bottom group
every shot yesterday told me I needed to ajust my sights

First shot oops wrong way
second shot oops to far
3rd & 4th one click
5 & 6  one more click

top group is next five shots
bottom hole you have to look close (2 in one)
I barely could believe it...

this 30 yard group gives me hope that I do not have to have a scope for 30 yards.

I need to make an insert still target style but with stepped crosshairs inside with the top of the stepped part acting as the 30 yard post.

basically like this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/251360115525?lpid=82

I just have the basic circular insert now.

but hey I am proud of the single bull  it is really, really hard to adjust your sight pic when the dot gets very small
you can see I started low and adjusted up.

From experience I know as I get to know this config of the 1322 I should be able to improve a bit more...

But hey I think not to shabby for old eyes and decent sights ;)

And I should have put on a jacket not just flannel shirt.

I do think it was a bit luck also heck with the peep sights

the quarter size target looks like a     .    and the ring of the circular insert about 1.5 times the smileys size  :)

the difference in holdover is almost to small to see it is more feel.

if I make the insert just right  I should be albe to get close to scope like results.

I do wonder if this thing just might stack pellets with a scope?

Only one way to find out for sure.I had a peep on my hpa pistol but when I looked thru it all I could see is the dot on my front sight so now I have a 3/16 blade. :)

I like to see as much of the target as possible and it also helps to speed up target acquisition.

These are the style I like.  The one on top right I have about 10 spares. When your target is quarter size it works well at 20-25 yards and you basically are centering a circle in a circle in a circle.
http://www.champchoice.com/prod-DAISY_APERTURE_SET__4_pc__FOR_853_OR_888___140__170_-3895.aspx

the trick I use for 30 yards is to solder thin wire crosshairs and extend the bottom post up into the center circle using a sliver of aluminum can (or whatever) about  .03-.04 wide and the  dot(aim point) sits on top of that.

It works very well but only for the power level you make it for  other wise it is back to Kentucky Windage like today.

It works well for hunting also because if you can hit the quarter or come very close just about every time and have the Fpe take the shot.

With a scope well the 40-50 yard shots become tempting.  (if you have the fps/fpe)

it is getting close to the point that I need the magnification at 30 yards but not quite yet.
