Steel breech advantages

If I want to shoot with open sights, do I really need the steel breech in that case ?

K.O.

Are you talking pumper or CO2

On 14.5 and less barrels I like the idea of floating the barrel to divorce it from the pump tube,

The steel breech has a grub scew to hold barrel in place and  can be drilled and tapped for a second for insurance.

with CO2

some feel the floating barrel is more accurate some just like the way it looks I think...

Yes, sorry, although I like to shoot CO2, in this particular case I mean a pumper

K.O.

Well the short answer is no you do not need the steel breech,

but the front sight on the 1377/1322 sucks in my opinion.

I just put a steel breech and Daisy 853 sights on my 1322

another inexspensive rear sight is the industry brand

but honestly you could just mod the front sight...

Right.., so inaccuracy is more caused by the front sight than the breech...

K.O.

The plastic breech well it holds the barrel in place well enough.

my PC77 issues

I had a rough lead in, and burrs at the port that caused accuracy probs,

I sorted those and the pivot arm roll pin started moving which caused the front sight to move.

that is taken care of and it is decently accurate now but will get the steel breech in spring as I can afford it.

IMO i would say yes just because you don't have to worry about the barrel twisting or moving with the steel breech. plus you have a better and wider range of sights you can use as for the stock plastic breech your limited to the stock rear sight.

metal breech also gives better clamping force on the transfer port so it is less likely to leak  :-*
plus what the others have said above  :-*
If you float your barrel make sure the breech is solid to the tube...the TP fit can be squirrelly and the breech will rock
not as bad on the 7/8" tubes as the 3/4"

Which "pumper" 1377? 2289?

And... have you modified and smoothed out your trigger already? How about the crown of the barrel and the breech end of the barrel?

IMO, these all have far more influence on the ability to make consistent shots on target (accuracy is the shooters capability, not the gun)

The 1377 and agree with you that accuracy is with the shooter  ;)

and gives you the worry of that breech screw not wanting to come back out .....

very true Kevin, I've been fortunate not to strip one with at least 100 teardowns
all oem 4-48's have been replaced with aftermarket stainless from Cothran and AC custom  :-*
like been said before...first in last out and squeeze breech to tube to unload the threads (in and out)
I also use some light machine oil on the threads...loctite a no no bigtime!

I striper one out on my 2240 and ordered a breech for the Disco. Then I had to noch the hammer. This was affter a lot of trail and screwups ;D ;D But like the other guys said with the stell breech you can float the barrel and also add what ever site you want :-* :-*
