I have to re-polish my barrels like once a month because they start to build rust and finger prints from me touching my guns more often than shooting  :(

Is there any thing that I can pick up at a hardware store that will do the trick at prolonging the life of my shiny barrels?

Maybe some clear coat paint if your looking to keep her from turning on you.

You might try Boeshield T-9. I use it on all of my machine tools and guns.It works for me.I buy it at Homedepot.I wet a rag with it and wipe it on and let it dry for a day or two, works great.

I got a new Mark II for my wife and kids... I think it was a pretty good trade.

many things can be done...depends on what you want
here's one with cellulose lacquer...prepped with 220 grit, 9 spray applications, cured for 4 weeks, looks the same after almost one year:

Wipe down the gun after every use to get the oils from your hands off the metal.  I use Ballistol to wipe down my guns; wood, plastic and metal.

I don't do anything but wipe them down after each use. The more polished the metal, the longer it lasts. That's what I have experienced with polishing metal.

I have a feeling Mike's gonna chime in on this one  :D
Try spray laquer or paste wax.
Paste wax keeps bluing rust free on my match rifle that always wants to rust.

Flitz is the best metal Polish IMO and lasts pretty long. I just keep polishing as needed. Yeah it's a pain in the butt, but bling guys love shiny to stay shiny.

Nope...  :-X Spray "lacquer" is too generic.

You need a clear-coat that does not turn milky or yellow-ish on contact with alloys like aluminum and zinc and some steels (a chemical reaction). The 13XX and 22XX guns use a zinc alloy frame and mild steel tubing.
