is this the worst crown you've seen

i recently bought a few s/h barrel and one of them had the worst crown i've ever seen ,by the looks of it a previous owner(not the chap i bought them from) has cut a 14"nickel plated one down to 10" and attempted to recrown it
as i was in the shed making a filler cover and a gauge block without a gauge hole port for my discovery i decided to redo it and polish the leade

Nice looking work, ped! 

However, that is the 2nd worst crown I have ever seen.  The worst one was when I was facing the crown and dug in a bit just off the edge and obviously my tool holder turret was not tightened enough.  It made nasty right quick for a second or so.  I am just glad I did not step in it at that point! Phew!

I looked around to make sure nobody saw me do that (like when you fall down, I hear).  Then I refaced and crowned and all was well.

not skilled larry i just muddle along having a go i make more cock ups than good pieces and i've had similar with the lathe david only i caught the cross travel power feed and ruined a piece id spent 1/2 a day on

cheers carl and although this crown has turned out very nice it's not as good as the one on the .25 barrel from al which came this morning all i can say is that it is beautifully done and i wish i had his skill and attention to detail

Duck, that original crown looks like Jaws, from the Roger Moore-Bond era, used the barrel for a toothpick.  Ugly, but ya cleaned it up nicely. 

I agree...Al's recessed crowns are a thing of beauty.

I was so excited, I had just finished my first rebuild on a 1300. Went to sight it in and it was all over the place. I remembered you all talking about crowns and this is what I found. Now the gun shoots better that me.
