PELLET TEST TARGET/CHRONY RESULTS...PIC

I was originally going to post this in the new "PELLET EXCHANGE" thread but I don't want to bog it down with a pic, chrony results and my often long-winded hoopla.

There was a pellet exchange involved, albeit a one-way exchange.  I was sent 25 of the following .177 pellets to run thru the Beast: JSB Exact Match RS 7.33 grain, H&N Barracuda 10.68 grain, Crosman Premier Domed FT (box) 10.5 grain and Crosman Destroyer EX 7.56 grain.  All other pellets labeled on the target are what I had on hand.

Due to our relentless winds for weeks now I did all group tests in the barn at 10 yards.  Only one 5-shot group was shot with each pellet as I am using 5 for chrony and 5 at 25 and 50 yards if the winds cease to howl.  For any newcomers, a brief rundown on the Beast: built from a 2240, 2260 tube with bulk-feed via a 12 ounce CO2 GMT (gun mounted tank) and the GMAC P.E. 60.  24" factory barrel, full-length shroud, UTG 3-12x44 SWAT.  Total gun weight...10.7 pounds!  Built for one purpose...kill squirrels.

Here's the target, observations listed below the pic.



First up was the RWS Superdome 8.3 grain, the preferred diet for the Beast, on a no-wind day they will shoot 3/4" at 50 yards.  Just below that target is the JSB Exact Match RS.  Both are one-holers with JSB tighter by .022".  Both absolutely acceptable groups.  The other groups pretty much speak for themselves.  However, if you look closely at the Crosman Premier Dome FT (boxed) and the Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum (tin), each an ocean away and highly doubtful from the same lot, mold, lead composition, etc. have almost exactly the same group pattern.  I was surprised by the groups of each.  This opened my even more to testing various pellets to find the tightest groups, especially if it is to be used for hunting to strive for the one-shot humane kill.

Anyway.  The chrony tests were done on a different day because there is no electric in the barn to put the lights on the chrony.  The weather for the group testing is indicated on the target.  The chrony weather was 64 degrees with an RH of 90%, great differences in terms of RH and likely at least one cause in the wider velocity spreads.  Here's the chrony data...

There you have it, test groups and chrony data.  Even though test was on a different day with differen weather I would say that each was showing their average potentials.  In the chrony data a couple of the lighter pellets didn't show higher velocities as the other light pellets, on those particular pellets they seated with no force at, so, the velocity differences could be the results of some blow-by around the pellet skirt.  Forgot to mention, all chrony work was done two feet from the muzzle.

Long post?  Compared to a couple of mine when I tested my airguns, I think yours is short.

The Beast told you what it likes. I am a big fan of JSB Exact and RWS Superdome pellets
