Few questions for you experts.

1. What type of wood are the stocks made from on the new 392's or Sheridan 2260MB's?

2.  Anyone ever refinished one?  What kind of luck did you have?

3.  Suggestions on stain to use depending on the type of wood?

TIA

Thanks! I ordered up some quebracho tea yesterday and made up a solution of vinegar and steel wool.  Going to try my hand at ebonizing.  Apparently from what I've found these stocks are birch and notoriously difficult to stain without ugly blotching.  The tea adds necessary tannins to the wood so that the vinegar/steel wool can react and darken the wood.  The metal is going to be stripped and painted with a matte silver or grey color giving it a parkerized look.  I'll post it up in a couple of weeks when I'm done.

So the ebonizing went swimingly.  The rest of the meat and potatoes didn't go so well.  I'm on paint round #2.  I got overzealous and had to repaint due to me fouling up the first paint job.  Anyways I'll post a write up somewhere in one place on the whole project soon.
