My 2240 progress so far, not where I thought I would be

That was a good one. I had forgotten about that darn overtravel screw. It actually messed me up a long time back and you guys caught it from the pics. Backed it out a hair and all was right in the world.

Seems you have a mystery 2240. If by any chance you have enough $ on hand to buy a 2nd one, I would try starting from scratch and comparing the two. You should be getting a lot more shots and a flatter strig, even stock, than what you are getting.

If you'd like, send it to me and I will take a looksie and see if I can solve the problem??

BTW: htight do you tighten the gas cap? Lightly does it.

Thanks Rich, yup I have a 2nd stock one here that's not far off this one. Will play some more and see what's up. Finger tight on gas cap.

Worse case as you say it can take a road trip :)

update, getting better (i think).

Ok, well I installed the 18" barrel and hollow bolt and switched it over to .177 (no longer apples for apples i know).
with the boss value and transfer port, plus the barrel hole being opened to match, its now running consistently at around 645fps in the basement with everything at around 63 degrees room temp and 7.4gr wadcutters.

does that sounds about right? in my mind i thought I would be pushing the low 7's.

Hmm, think I got my answer on if it's  where it should be. Possibly no.

Swapped the breech and the 18" .177 barrel to a stock 2240 and its running 630fps avg on it. Would have expected to see more from the modded valve.

I'm now wondering about the internal valve spring being too strong or somehow "off". Have you compared the resistance you feel when you press the valve stem compared to a stock valve? Is the distance it opens (how far the valve stem can be moved onto the valve) impeded?
