funny you should post this
i have a disco valve that corroded and it was in a gun.it was at the bottom of my parts box
it even had rust on it and thats what corroded

I keep my 1389 with modded alloy valve well oiled,everytime I use the carbine,put one drop  on o-ring,even if when last used only shot it once.

I have not oiled my pistols in some time... I should be flogged for it too after reading Tim's post...

you really need to keep the piston oiled
it seals the cup better too

I'm guessing Tim has had a few but didn't show any photos (or do you need to be a forum member there to see them?).
EDIT: I didn't see 1377x 's photos before typing! They weren't visible?

Do they make a brass 22XX valve?

Is it more of an "air" gun problem rather than a "Co2" gun or the same either way? Humidity? Even gun location â€" environment wise.

I like the idea of installing a bait for the rust to go for and save the valve. Although I prefer the lube-for-life scenario!

i think all 22xx valves are brass

You're lucky on that one.  We were gonna flog you hard about that...

Tim did not post any pictures of his valves with problems.  So you did not miss much.

I think the aluminum corrosion/oxidation problem is all related to the air and perhaps the moisture content.  Hate to think about those poor aluminum valves in Florida and Louisiana.  Their insides are probably really messed up.

my vote is moisture content
my valve was in a humid basement for a while
havent opened it up yet
i hate to.this is the valve that was producing 38fpe-50+fpe.it really needs to be savd

You could make some rice filled beanbags to keep the moisture out, or at least absorb it. Bung'em in the box and shut the lid.

Or keep the valve in a small jar of oil. That would give the most protection (IMHO!).

Dissimalar metals. Brass will do it as well, just add, iron based metal, heat and water! Very large problem in injection molds.

this was a problem with 1400's as well.heard some horror stories
they came with a brass back and an aluminum front
