I would have liked to see them come out with an electronics's free big bore and a much lighter weight version of the mrod.

Nope.......need to spend about a grand on the lower to be competitive from what I read. This is a niche market and Crosman knows it. I have a pretty good feeling that this one was done to appease one of the Crosman exec's wishes!!
Surely not on the common airgunner's wish list  ;D

Nope this thing is so you can shoot pellets with your ar-15 lower and get lots of practice on your ar-15 trigger in your backyard.

You have it wrong. The M417/M4177 is the miltipump pneumatic. The MAR177 it the AR upper.
I read mikes post a bit closer and he already answered my question.
