There is a hole in the air tube that I can not figure why is needed. It is on the bottom , net to the valve retaining hole and is covered by the frame. I have studied the parts diagram of each and see nothing that fits or goes thru the hole. Anyone have an idea why this is needed?

See photo below, red arrow points to it.

That is where Crosman pins the valve on a stock gas gun. See picture below;

Opps, no sorry it is not that. It could be an air pressure dump hole for when the hammer is striking???

I don't know.........3rd base.....................

OK Rich, lets name this mystery hole "The Bleed Hole" for now. I have read threads where folks think the hammer moving forward to strike the hammer will compress air, much like a pump. Personaly, i dismiss this theory since the hammers I have experience with fit no where near tight. They all have a lot of clearance. Plus, there are several long slots that have loose fitting parts (sear, cocking pin) where air can escape. But, still trying to keep an open mind since that is the one hole I did not machine in my new tube, It may be worth while to go back and drill one in, .265" I think, and chrony the results again. Funny that this hole has not been discussed before , especially the way we baby over our guns!
What say yea?

Your right, there are plenty of gaps to let air out. I would like to make one without it to see if there is any difference.

That holes really annoys me now. WHAT IS IT! LOL  ;)

I guess it could be a bleed hole like you said. Better the gas freezes your hand than blows back in your face (if a seal blows)?  :o

Or a left over from an earlier/different design that's now redundant or never made it any further?
The tube is nearly the same as the innards of a Crosman 600. It just has a side slot and a couple of side valve pins.

Is the hole missing on the 2240 tube?  ???

When I first stripped down my 2250b I wondered what that hole was. I thought I'd lost a part or put it back together wrong.  :D
I never really thought about it after that. UNTIL NOW!

I can't see it helping the hammer for the reasons said.

Could it be something like how it's held in a jig at the factory (if it is held in one!)?
Is it easier (production) to drill all the way through rather than one hole (assuming it aligns with the transfer hole? Memory failing...)?

It'll probably be that it has no purpose and was just put there for conversation!  :D ;D ;D  Cunning.....

Where does the sear pivot. Could it be clearance?
