breech bolts

newbie here again. why am i seeing "extended bolts" or "hollow bolts. whats the purpose?
should i get one too?

the hollow bolt allows for a different some would say better depending on the pellet  airflow, the extended bolt seats the pellet deeper in tha barrel allow cleaner push....Need is an interesting would though in most cases it should be replaced with WANT or even lusting after

Extended and hollow bolts push pellets consistantly forward of the exhaust port in the barrel and consistantly set the pellet in the same postion each time. Each bolt works well and can provide minimal fps gains. I use both types and do not have a preference.

In the motorcycle world upgrades of minimal function are referred to as Farkle, on bicycles its often called bling, on DH skateboard we refer to is as pimping regardless of the term it is usually considered when one doesn't like the "look" of something rather than trying to improve how something works and lust is always involved

Yup, you need one, extended bolt is fine, they both do the same thing

i cant remember who said it but i guess the long probes work better for HPA than hollow probe. a hollow probe will seat all different kinds of pellets in the exact same position in the barrel while a long probe pushes the pellet from inside the skirt, and depending on the depth of the pellet skirt, will position differently in the barrel

with high powered guns the hollow probe limits output
the extended probe doesnt
if looking for better accuracy and a little more power,its worth the investment
if its for a .177 go with the extended probe

I used to use flow through bolts in most of my guns (still have it in one), but since first reading that post, and having this (pic below) happen to me, I've switched to extended probes.

Looks like the small dia that was turned down for the o-ring gave out while slamming a pellet home to the breech?

Close....turns out the probe diameter was .217", whereas the theoretical bore size should be .216 - .2168" (would explain why it was "snug" when I locked the bolt into place...), and the "hollow" part of probe was bored too deep - only about 1/32" left between probe base and o-ring shaft...

Between the two minor discrepencies, the bolt finally failed after about 250 - 300 shots.
