okay i just got my base line 2240 from crosman. love it and cant wait to mod it.
my question is why do i see some 2240's with a screw partially covered under
the right side grip cover on the frame and mine does not have that screw?
whats it for?

There are "old" and "new" models of the 2240 also known as 3-screw and 2-screw side plates. The so-called 2-screw/plastic cover is the latest one, the old one was pot-metal and, it didn't fit flush like the new one (poor qaulity casting features). I think they are both 3 screws BTW, you just can't see screw # 3 with the grips in place on the new models.

Brian,
I believe that the old metal cover that didn't fit so well had two (2) screws and the new plastic cover with the nicer fit has three (3) screws.  At least that is how mine are.  I have two of each.  On one of my older ones, I was able to do a little filing and make it fit much better.

Hmmm, I think that is correct and yes, those metal covers needed some creative metalwork to fit flush.
