Just for conversation.  Whats the deal with the backppacker's breech?  I'm curious.  I notice it has that pellet loading lever that seems like it would be a benefit for easy loading.  For those who have one, did you like it?  Can you still get them?  Were they plastic of metal?  Why did Crosman nix them?

1377x

they turn up for sale on the yellow classifieds and ebay
myself i dont like them i had a 1389 and got rid of it
first i broke the loading gate ,cheap plastic, you wont believe what the gougers are charging for them i was quoted $20 for one $12 of that was for shipping
luckily my local had some they were around $3-$5 iirc. i got the last two for a member here on the forum
then there is a gap between the transfer port / the pellet and the pellet / the barrel
they are metal with a 3/8 dovetail for a scope.they probably cost to much to machine so they got dropped
the transfer port was like the lower half of the transfer port you are used to in the current guns

another thing i didnt like about the loading is the pellet wasnt in the barrel when loaded its like a revolver
i think i read somewhere it hurt accuracy but not as much as the hole drilled in the barrel through the rifling for the front sight
on my 1389 i added a flat top piston and valve with a stock 14 inch barrel it shot 600fps with a cphp and i put a brand new hammer assembly in it.
my 1377 with a 10 inch barrel shoots 650fps with a cphp
both guns pumped ten times
imo the only good thing about the gun was the name
now a 2289g backpacker is a different beast
its a 1377 that is a carbine from the factory

Yes that loading port is a poor idea,I have a almost new one in my spares box, never going to use it again.
Once my 1389 was fitted with brass breech from Gmac the carbine was a far better shooter.

How would you cock the hammer?  It doesn't look like there is a bolt to yank back.  Is it like the MK I and II's where you pulled from the back?

yep rear cocking just like the phase 1 and phase 2 1377.which imo is better than the bolt cocking

Has anyone tried polishing out the "Metal" 2 screw trigger side plates on one of these?
All this 2289 talk is making me want to "Hot Rod"  (but in a stock looking way) my ol' 2289.

So.....If you were going to Mod a 2289 internally, but keep it mostly stock looking on
the outside, what would you do. i.e. trigger improvements, FT V & P, TP work, solid pin, etc.?

This will be fun, let the ideas roll.

Dude, too funny.....I just pulled my BackPacker out and it's a 1389 not 2289.
I had bought a 2289g tube awhile back to do a  conversion and forgot
all about the fact it was a .177 (1389). Memory goes first.
I hope.
