Seems to me that gun should have a German name.  So nice......

Again, VERY nice!  :o

How does it shoot? Show us some targets?  ;)

When I originally built it, I shot a 90/150 freehand without even adjusting the sights. Right on par with my Avanti 753 (I'm a 80-100/150 shooter normally). Since I raised the sights a bit, it shoulders better so I might try it in the monthly comps.

Couldn't help it.  Took my 1740 parts gun and had to add a .177 24" disco bbl.  Never had a long bbl on a xx40 frame.  Always been the xx50.  I think it looks sweet without the xx50 foregrip and what not.  Getting 650fps in this rig with stock valve set up with 7.9 CPHP's.  Only thing I did was polish the brass on the stem and round off the sharp edges because the stem was new.  I had pirated this one's stem for my stubby when I put it up for sale (by the way, someone go buy it!).  Eventually I'll throw on a steel breech and a light scope I think.  Or maybe she'll stay like this.  I really like the crosman stock with the peep!
Full blown Crosmaniac.

Just put an AO 3-9 scope on my Benj 397.   Shot a bunch of groups.  Then, removed the scope and mounts and returned
back to the Williams receiver sight.

Minor updates. New buttpad salvaged from the 1399 stock (with more vertical adjustment), handstop/sling stud on forearm and some textured paint underneath for better control.

Last night I put a steel breech on a 1322 for some reason (guess I just felt like tinkering...), if you have the parts you might as well use them I guess :), I don't have a pistol scope or open site to put on it so it's somewhat pointless, I might screw with a chunk of aluminum or something and make a site insert, doesn't look too hard...

Today I was having an itch to put a long .177 barrel on a 2240 with a 1399 stock for some reason, might have been beejwest above... turns out I had a .177 disco barrel and a .177 steel breech on hand, as well as my first 2240, and a Ruger 4x40 scope and rings floating around. The only real hangup is the only 1399 stock I had around was from a Craigslist deal and apparently it's old enough to be from the Coleman era and the pins for the grips have changed on the grip frames since then, so I swapped the grip frame from the 1377 that it was on before that someone filed off those pins...

Anyway, I guess this is a teaser, I'll see what I can do about getting pictures tomorrow, maybe I'll try to get the Maximus in the mix. Between this 1760/1740 or whatever you wanna call it and the maximus I need to site in two scopes...

HA! The long barrel 1740 gotcha Ranger!!  I just got done telling my wife after dinner it was my new favorite.  Open sights and all.  It's scary accurate.  I was out on a wasping mission with mine this evening.  Have a bunch of pears on the ground that we didn't use under our pear tree.  The wasps, bees and flies get all over 'em and get drunk on fermented pear I think.  Anyways I was standing about 10 yards off shooting wasps off these pears with open sights!  Even when I missed the wasps were too hammered to do anything  :P
Full blown Crosmaniac.

I just put a 14.5 inch barrel on my 2240 and at about 20 feet it shoots 10 inches high. I can't lower my notched sight or a peep sight that is also shooting a bit high. Is a scope the way to go to drop the point of impact?

CraigH

First, was it ok with the original barrel?  If so, there may be a problem with the new barrel.

Does it have the original plastic breech or a steel breech or other aftermarket breech?

Make sure the barrel band is aligned and snugged up.

You may want to grind the rear sight to correct.

I had a 2260 that could not be be sighted in with either the open sights or any scope - it was shooting considerably (over 3 inches) to the right with the sights moved to their limits.

Nice! Sounds like fun shooting.

I never tried it with original barrel. I bought it as a open box item. It was used to put parts on for a photo shoot. It had only 5 shots put threw it.  I did try unscrewing the sight pin a bit to raise that and it did help some, unfortunately it was not long enough to go further. The breech is steel and every thing does seem to be aligned

If you have a steel breech with the stock site modified to work, that is probably your problem, the rear site is most likely about 1/8" taller which would make you shoot a lot higher than the site was meant to on the plastic breech. If you got the 760 fiber optic site, that is taller, or add something to the front site to make it taller.

I was searching around and found the solution in archers airguns Blog. I am using the industry brand rear notched sight which came with a ar2078 rifle. Apparently on some 2240s at close ranges it causes them to hit high. His solution if using the stock front sight you can drill a small hole down the center of the blade and insert a finishing nail to the length needed to drop the point of impact. If I continue to use the rear sight I"ll search for a longer screw I can replace the sight pin with on the muzzle brake.

rangerfredbob

Yeah, that should do it

Sighted in my 1740 tonight, no pictures though since I didn't play with it til 9 tonight... it's a fun gun, needs either  much shorter scope mounts or a higher cheek rest, or both, I'm not one for tall   mounts but you can't complain too much about parts you find in your stash that came with something random... :) I definitely see what everyone says about loading a .177 pellet with the steel breech, I'll be finding a crayon soon. This thing hits harder than I was expecting and is much quieter than a 2240, I can see why it's a common setup

If it is wood you can go for them sorbothane pads made by GodAGrips..

http://godagrip.com/cheek-pads.html

Installed one on my AA S5..

..and if it sports a Crosman stock then this..

It is an ATI cheekpad..I replaced the plastic bolt and had custom stainless washers and bumper bolt ( it has a square neck ) machined..
