What work did you just do?

Ern, that is one of the nicest polish jobs I've ever seen.  It looks plated its so smooth.  Shame it will tarnish.  But whatever you used on the last buffing will probably get off the oxidation periodically.  I thought of using spray lacquer, but eventually swapped out my polished frame for a 1701 and never got around to polishing that one.

What a cracking job, I have been polishing one for months and it's so boring I just spend 10 minutes on it then walk away. Hats off for you perseverance and a stunning end product.

A clear coat over bare metal is tricky, can change the look. Because it's going to be handled, even more so. I've not tried anything on a frame yet.

+1  to that, there are some clear coat products that are not supposed to turn "milky" when applied to bare metal but... the problem is the chem reaction to the coating. Alum and Zinc alloys being the worst. Probably best to just keep using a neutral ph wax and polish as needed.

Very nice Mr. BE. Tried waxing mine to prolong its sheen but in the end I had it powdercoated. Too much hassle to maintain its shine you should wear gloves at all times lol!

Now there is a very interesting concept.  Need to talk to my powder coat friend about how feasible that is.

Out on the left coast, you will often see aluminum railings built around the beach front walkways and boat docks and the alum tubing and fittings are clear powder coated, looks good and is waaay durable. Not sure how much chemical prep the aluminum gets before coating and baking but, it's gotta be a simple, fast process to allow 1000's of feet of it to be made cost effectively? ( like steel and rust never sleeps, neither does alum-oxide)

Whether the Zinc alloy gun frames can be processed the same way is the biq question.

Well the good times don't last long do they    The grip frame already started to fade after just one use    It happens only where the hand touches the frame, I was thinking about one of the Houge (I think it's called) rubber slip on grips that I have seen. Someone here had one but I can't remember who it was or what thread it was on. Anyone have one and what do you guys think about it? It's too much work to polish the frame after every use. I might just paint the frame matte silver if I can't figure this out.

Marine wax works.  Clear powdercoat probably best solution.

I ordered a couple of Hogue Handalls hoping to fit one on one of my Crosman pistols and the other on one of my powder burner pistols and neither one fit well.  The one on the Crosman grip was very loose at the top edge when it was tight and just clear of the bottom so that it had the finger cutouts in the right place.  Didn't fit any of my powder-burner pistols any better.  $30 lesson.
