 The second time was much worse than the first.  Even though I had done some sanding, it was not nearly enough.  I finally peeled off the plastic to see what was inside.  The rear part is a 1 7/8" delrin tube secured by a set screw.  I removed the front part and was still unsuccessful in removing it.  I then used the method that always works.  I clamped a set of vice grips to the barrel and another set to the delrin tube and twisted it off.  I used heavy cardboard to cushion the barrel and the tube, but it was not strong enough and I marked both the barrel and the tube.  A bit too late I remembered that the only thing that will keep a set of vise grips from marking something is leather. The barrel measured .435 at the end and .436 11/8" from the end (the point to where it was on the barrel).   The moral of this story is not to shove your part somewhere you haven't checked out.

It's not much of a problem.  I'll either polish it or paint it black.  If I had known what the "carbon fiber wrap" was I would have ordered it naked.  Now it looks like I'll be sanding on it for several days.  At any rate, the thing does a real good job of preventing the lead dust from polluting the atmosphere.

Are there any in-depth books or blogs or even websites where one can learn the real deal ins and outs on doofing and lead dust collection.  There has to be a science to it... general rules of thumb... calculations of optimal aggregate hole diameter and placement for specific LDC length and based on projectile diameter and speed, etc.  Please tell me its not a hit and miss type thing... or even mostly for looks.
