What is the size of the breech screw in a 22XX
There are two screws in the breech, one is 4-48 x 1/4", the other is 8-32 x 11/16" for a steel breech, 8-32 x 13/16" for the plastic breech.
They are flatheaded, right. It's the under the bolt. I want to replace it withna real screw.
Yes, the one under the bolt (4-48) is a flathead.
They are a 4-48 flat head with straight sides and flat underside (ie not v-shaped for a countersink type hole)
What's a "real screw" anyway?
Either a phillips or common flat headed screw.

We can't answer that type of question on this board because we are family oriented. :P

Any idea where I can buy them?
Quick! Somebody give the newbie a screw! Skip, do you have a file, a small block of wood, some sandpaper and a cordless drill motor? If you do, PM me and I will give you a "real" screw. You will have to file and sand a little off the dia. of the screw and a little off the top. In my picture I took a little too much off the top, but this was the first one that I made. The screw is a 4-48 SS.

McMaster Carr, Fastenal and many other industrial fastener suppliers.
You can't buy just one or two, be prepared for a bag of 25 or 50 -ish.
Originals are flat underside but countersunk replacements fit better.

Wait, not that type of screw, I assure you!
Found them at McMaster Carr, package of 100. On line Fastenal doesn't have them. Thanhs for all the help.
