Title: Helping the young ones
Post by: AgentWD40_FL on February 25, 2013, 01:30:58 PM
I'd like to introduce you to Matt ... my neighbor friends 9 year old boy.  He comes over a couple times a week to shoot with me.  His dad bought him a 1377 after Matt got a perfect score on his yearly math/reading test.  His father and I have been teaching him how to shoot, and how to properly handle a gun.  He does really well and picked things up very fast.  He understands the sight-in process too, and enjoys shooting paper targets ... but not as much as shooting cans --- his favorite!  He can just get 3 pumps in the gun, which is perfect for indoor garage shooting.

He's a good boy and loves his 1377 .... here he is in a posed shot and trying to keep a serious straight face :)  He didnt want a picture with the glasses on .....  ;D

That's cool, WD!

Love seeing little tykes getting into the sport, learning right from the start the PROPER protocol... :-*

Seeing their face when they hit their mark, you can't help but put a smile on your own face... 8)

Pretty Cool! :)
Started teaching my 7 yr old and his friend... but we are shooting outside to start. Weather has been to cold or windy, so not much shooting time in yet.

Maybe a 2240 would be a better pistol starting out so he doesn't have to worry about pumping.

In no time he'll be up to five pumps by himself.  He does like my CCS 2300 with the scope tho ....  ;)

I don't have kids nor know what to do with them, but I think you are doing a great thing taking Matt under your wing and teaching him about safety and how to enjoy a fun hobby. Cheers!

It is alot of fun having Matt around ... the enthusiasm he displays is priceless.  He tries hard at the 'precision' part of it (I'm rubbing off I think LOL) and its funny to watch things like a second shot on a new target. He'll put the gun down and go to the target trying to find the second shot.  When he cant, he's all excited cause he knows he put it through the same hole.

I have to give him a couple minutes to let the excitement abate before he can pick the gun up again.  ;D

I especially like him around when we shoot cans outside.  I can sit on my lazy butt while the energy of a 9 year old will reset all the cans down range.  :D :D :D :D :D

Every kid should have the chance to have someone like WD (or any of us) in their life. Great job WD  :-*
