Im curious to all leaves there 2289 stock. Im just curious as to why. im tore between a few mods for the 2 that i have. Im ok with the stock performance as in texas we cant hunt squirrels with air guns. so i generally just shoot paper spinners and cans and plastic bottles. considered an 18 inch barrel and flat top piston and valve. im considering that as i love seeing the cans jump when hit. im not overly mechanical and hand tools are my worse enemy im not overly mechanically inclined
Mine is still stock but I haven't had it a month yet. I'm still gathering parts and deciding just how far I want to take it. Also, I need to get out the chrony before I start to get a baseline. I never did do that with any of my previous guns. :
Cheers,
I didn`t do much on mine i`m not really big on pumpers . All i did was added a steel breech and LPA site and a muzzle brake added that so i could put a sling on the gun it`s just about done just needs to go and get a camo paint job then it will be the only gun i can say is DONE!!!!!!!!
Jim
I left mine totally stock. Sometimes it nice not to have to worry about what to do or do next to a gun. And the 2289 is one of those. It shoots just fine right out of the box.

Someone please post up a picture of a stock 2289......Please :)

Geesh, who would have thought... ???
You know, I don't have one but when I get back from church this morning I'll take one or two and post them.
Carl
i was thinking the same thing. if i do anything i think the steel breech and a red green blue dot by BSA i have 3 of those on my other air guns. if we were allowed to hunt squirrels in texas id try to squeeze more performance. but for nailing cans it is fine
:)
OK thinking out load here...
I am wanting a longer barrel on the 1377... But was also thinking 22 cal... Then maybe I just buy a dug out gun...
Is the 2289 only available in this kit? I am thinking its a 12'' barrel, correct? I wanted 14'' but maybe the 2289 will do ''it'' for me...
CW
EDIT... Pyramid Airs coupon nets me 11$ off if I order one with a steel breech today.... :o :o :o ;D ;)
Woe is me, I must join the ranks. Went to pull out my 2289 and couldn't believe it, I added a Crosman Long Steel breech and a Williams peep sight. SO it sure enough ain't stock. Sigh...

You can buy a longer barrel from Crosman fairly cheap. All these part numbers are for .22
24" 2260-003
18" 2400-102
14.5" 2250-019
I have not yet found a part number for a 12" barrel.

Why take a picture before you put all your money and effort into it?

THANKS BROTHER!!
I think I'll call them Monday. I just need to get part numbers for the 1377 valve. I really just need the check. But thi king maybe I get it all. Along with the pump arm. I have seen the PN posted.

Here ya go...........same part numbers;

I can not find any pictures of my 2298G before modifying it. When I bought it I never intended to use it without at least replacing the breech and the barrel band. The picture I posted was very hard to locate at the time - most of the ad pictures showed the old model with the 14.5" barrel.

The parts are the same for all 3 the only difference is the pump arm and the barrels.
Is this what you are looking for?

Same here except... trigger mods (the usual) and a fiber-optic front sight off a 760 pumper. I love how light this gun is compared to my other heavily modified guns, totally fun to shoot and accurate as heck :-*
These are the new Backpackers, right? Or are these the old ones? I get confused with the pumpers. You pumper guys have to educate me.
Thanks,
Rich
I think most of the chatter has been about the "new" model 2289 Rich (aka backpacker) , a little shorter barrel than the old model but the same gun.
These are the new ones. The older ones had a 14.5" barrel and these are 12". You can tell by the lack of space between the barrel band and the front sight. The older ones with 14.5" barrels had about 2-1/2" between the front of the barrel band and the rear of the front sight.
I have a 2250 barrel (14.5") that will go on mine when I install the steel breech. I will also do a trigger job at that time if not before.
Cheers,

Yepper, I totally agree with you Brian.

Thanks Jerry :-* that helps clear things up for me. I wonder why they didn't go with the longer barrel?
Did I just ask that?

The 12 inch barrel on mine was so accurate I had to have it on the 2240. The gun looks better with the 18 inch barrel, IMO, that is. TKO spring kit, barrel and stuffed piston from Carl is all I have done.

I wish they had stuck with the 18" barrel too! Much nicer looking to me, in that setup.
Oops... meant to say 14"
I am pretty sure that the original backpacker only came with a 14.5" barrel and not an 18" barrel.

Looks like a 14 1/2" barrel to me. The 1389 backpacker.

QuoteDo they still come with the quick release?
As Howie said, yes. And it still digs into the web of your hand (well, mine anyway) when you have the shoulder stock off and are shooting with pistol grips.
I'm going to take the QR pin and spring off and drill and countersink the holes in the stock for the screws. If I change from pistol grips to shoulder stock, I'll need a screwdriver anyway and the screws will be there. The only time the QR would be useful is when you carried it around in the backpack with no pistol grips and just needed to install the shoulder stock to shoot it or remove it to stick it back in the backpack and were pressed for time. I would rather use the screws and be able to shoot it as a pistol without the QR pin digging into my hand.
Cheers,
Looking at Mike's picture, it sure looks like they cheaped out big time on the new model ???
Looks like the old one has a steel breech and loader, not to mention the green stock and forearm....
Rich
on my first backpacker the stock was a little sloppy and the barrel had some movement havent noticed in any loss of accuracy. the second one the stock and barrel are really tight. the more i mess with them i love them. now i love my 2240 which i did some mods to. my backpackers are extremely accurate with chp 14.3 gr a ragged hole at 10 yards open sight. real tempting to get 2 steel breaches and the little bug buster scope
Guess I didn't make myself clear, I bought the 18 inch from crosman after I took the 12 inch off the newer 2289g and put it on the 2240. Kind of glad I didn't have the older model with the longer barrel seeing as how I have a 5.5 inch TKO LDS to put on it after I order and receive a breech that will allow me to mount the SP-1 I bought a couple months ago.
I was amazed at how light my 2289 was when I first got it, but now it feels very heavy, almost like a what you'd expect a firearm to weigh. That's what happens when you take off most of the plastic parts and replace them with metal. :-*
I wouldn't want to leave it stock. The trigger pull is not very good and the barrel band easily wiggles loose. If anything, shell out the $55 for a metal barrel band and do your own trigger mod for free. It won't really change the overall look of the gun but your accuracy and reliability will be improved.
