So my next project has some aluminum parts that i will be painting i have a special paint i would like to shear if you guy don't already no about it. It's a special primer and made for this type of painting. It's called Self etching primer made by SEM it coast 20 beans for a 15.5 oz can. I have painted aluminum before only to have the paint scratch easy and chip doing all the proper prep work mind you. The can tells you to use 180 grit sand paper and clean the parts after. So i will post the gun as soon as it's done wish me luck.
Mike
Quotewish me luck.
Good Luck, Mike!
Good luck indeed, Mike! :-*
The shroud on my MK I hpa is aluminum and I have had the same problems you just stated, no matter what brand I try >:(. I'm about ready to give up on paint and just powdercoat it instead.
Looking forward to the pics and your verdict as well!
Etching primer...yep, the only way to do it right! Good Luck :-*
Let me add i will be warming part/parts and paint before i spray i always do this and it seems to help the paint stick better.
Mike

This is the one I have been using with good results. Painting aluminun is a pain, I have even heard of people using vinegar as a self etching primer for aluminun but have not tried it. I always use self etching primer on bare metals. I have tried shortcuts with bad results...

Mike

First coat of primer.
You shoot a fine coat of paint brother!

And after two coats of satin black.

Looks awesome Mike ... :-*
Looks great Mike :-*
What kind of paint did you use for the top coats?
Rich
That looks great just like that Mike!
Thanks guys.
I used Krylon satin black. I did a scratch test on the grip part and it seems to hold up to my finger nail. One more day of drying before I install it.
Mike
A little bit of orange peel going there, but still not bad at all.

Yeah but not to bad i would normally sand and give it another coat but i really don't want to do that until i'm happy with the durability of the paint job. I had so much trouble with the paint on the aluminum i just might leave it alone.
Mike
That turned out nice Mike. :-* :-* :-*

Thanks much !!
Yep just the primer looked better than any finish on any Crosman frame I have. So my question...does this stuff work on the pot metal stuff that Crosman uses for frames???
