Title: Benjamin pistol
Post by: azmark on June 24, 2013, 02:05:09 AM
The Benjamin EB22 cost twice as much as a 2240.  What's up with that?  Is it that much better?

depends on your definition of better --- mod wise not really ,solidly built yes .they are made of brass verses steel with wood grips(no plastic breech, better probe with the bs) ,not plastic.they are smaller than the 2240 . the BS msps are built like tanks unlike the crosman msps .....

X2 to eric's comments. Benjamin/Sheridan is a premium line both in name and quality of components.

Eric,

What does msps mean?  Am I missing something obvious?

Everybody,

What's up with the way you cock the Benjamin pistol?  If you have to pull out that knurled knob, it looks uncomfortable at least.  Don't want to sound like a sissy, but....... ???

I love those pictures. They remind me of the ol' PGP paint shooters I started paintballing with in the 80s.

I had one even that I traded away, less than a decade ago - all brass, polished, shooting well. Gads...   :-X

I received the new issue of Airgun Hobbyist magazine this afternoon. There was an article on the Benjamin EB/HB series of pistols. They are being discontinued by Crosman. As with the end of the Blue Streak, another AG with roots deep in history is going by the wayside. If you get the opportunity, get hold of a Sheridan or Benjamin-branded pistol in either or both configurations.

WOW - and I was just about to sell my cherry HB17 in nickel and a virtually new EB22. I guess one should stock up before it's too late  :(

Give me a 2240 any day of the week.

The EBs are solid and perform well but no good for modding. So not much use to me.

Looks like the Sheridan .20 calibre pumpers will go out of the catalogue also, end of a wood and steel pumper era...

Although I agree with Droid on a pure practical basis, the brass and wood guns were (are) great keepsakes. The trigger guts and springs do mod up fairly easy but, that's about the extent of mods.

Yes, as a keepsake or classic the 2240 is not even in the mix.

If I was a collector they would be in my collection for sure. Some of the nickel plated models still tempt me.

True that. Aside from some RB grips there isn't really anything one can do to them...

I did have a go at polishing my EB22, it was a devil to get into some of those places. I did give up in the end, though the polished ones I have seen completed look tasty.

I think the Benjamin's are fine just as they are no need to mod them. But I sure
am glad the 22XXs and 13XXs are IMO born to mod.

See if someone nearby can have a go at it with a bead blaster. Might produce a matte finish, though. I've had several frames and parts sandblasted by a local sign maker. It sure makes a great surface for final painting.
