Title: 1701 Tuning Questions
Post by: maxtrouble on November 18, 2016, 11:11:21 PM
Took my 1701p out for some shooting today, what a tack driver!  The only thing slowing this pistol down is the shooter.  I am getting 70 shots out of the box with 7.0 grain RWS Hobbies average fps is 460 fps:

Average: 460.1 FPS
SD: 12.1 FPS
Min: 428 FPS
Max: 478 FPS
Spread: 50 FPS
Shot/sec: 0.1
True MV: 486 FPS

Now for some tuning questions:

1.  What can I put on the front sight to make it easier to see?
2.  Can the safety be changed / modified for a left handed shooter?
3.  Is there a basic mod or tune that should be performed?

Thanks in advance for all the replies  :-*

I put this  http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-fiber-optic-rods-1-5mm-060-fits-all-guns-using-060-sight-rods-pick-4-colors-/201719524305?hash=item2ef76babd1:g:kWgAAOSwxCxT6Nvm (http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-fiber-optic-rods-1-5mm-060-fits-all-guns-using-060-sight-rods-pick-4-colors-/201719524305?hash=item2ef76babd1:g:kWgAAOSwxCxT6Nvm)

on my sights with super glue.  I did not flare the end with heat as that made it to much to look at.   I used a finger nail file to make the end squared off.  It absorbs the ambient light and if you put it on stright it looks like a small led light.  Works great under trees in the shade.  Works best on a blade sight.  I don't know how it could be mounted on a pin sight.   The are some sights availeble with truglo mounted in blade sights by drilling a hole through the sight.  This one comes to mind.

Arkmaker may be able to make you a LH Safety.

A dab/dot of white paint usually helps.  I like red personally.
What kind of rear sight are you using?   Have you ever considered a red dot sight?  I really like the Millett SP1.  It has a small 3 moa dot.

I only increased the hammer spring tension on my 1701P to get it to 500FPS for about 50 shots.  In my case I just liked the way it cut the target holes cleaner with a little more FPS.  I use RWS Meisterkuglen 7.0gr  & the Millett sight.

That's a good looking pistol!  How hard is it to increase the hammer spring tension to get 500 fps?

Just use an Allen wrench to adjust the spring tension.  I think it's in the Manual.
