Title: Does Barrel Length Impact the Accuracy of Air-Guns?
Post by: LollyanIca on July 02, 2024, 03:33:04 PM
Can the length of the barrel dramatically influence the accuracy and range of air-guns? I'm considering customizing my 2240XL and wondered if investing in a longer barrel would improve my marksmanship. Thoughts and experiences?

You can generally get more power from a longer barrel, up to a point, as that gives more space for the pellet to get accelerated.  Accuracy will generally not be affected, until the barrel gets so long that it starts "whipping" because it's not stiff enough for its length, commonly said to be experiencing harmonics, although that term is not accurate.  The effect is unwanted.

It depends on range as DHunter mentioned, if I remember right the ideal length is around 18" for velocity and everything, it'll definitely be quieter...
