Finally have a Chrony! :-*
Here are the results;
96 steamy degrees, no wind
3 feet from muzzel to chrony
1322 with 14.5" barrel
LDC
Steel Breech and Flow-thru probe
Stock internals
I shot two over the chrony with the Transformer just for grins. Posted is the higher shot by 2fps
I am a tad disappointed as I was hoping to break into the 500's. Well see if the FT setup can get me there!
Rich
im guessing youre using a CPHP pellet??
Way to go Rich :-*
Mike
Rich that is great . :-* :-* :-*
You now have a chrony, target trap, plenty of pellets, special guns, and even some time to shoot so you are on a roll. Now all those little tweaks you do can be scrutinized and decided if they are really worthwhile.
Carl
Thanks guys,
Yep, I am using Crosman Premeirs Hollow Points Pyramid says they are 14.3 grains.
The Transformer is now sporting a 24" .177 barrel and a steel breech and stock probe. Need a new probe for it! I was shooting Gamo Hunter Domes which again Pyramid Air said weighed 7.5 grains.
Now I am itching to break into the 1322 and get busy on modding the valve and I will need to make a flat-top piston as well.....
Here are the numbers and a shot of the chrony showing the Transformers high shot! Now I would like to break the 800 plane here so a bit more tinkering and I think I can do it, as the back half of the valve has not been touched yet, nor the springs!
Rich
Nice Rich :-* There's no substitute for a long barrel. Keep going I'm sure that you'll hit your fps goals.
I was wondering what you were up to :)
More important than the speed (FPS) though is the muzzle energy. Do you need a 'Quick' calculation to get the FPE? It is pretty straightforward.
If you want to calculate the muzzle energy use this formula: Ke = ((Mass in Grains)(velocity in Fp/S)2)/450240
FPE = Foot Pounds of Energy
Pellet Velocity FPE
14.3 900 25.73
14.3 x 900^2 (900 squared) / 450240

good info but if you are lazy like me use this

btw "artmaker"
nice numbers on the 1322
i just put one together before the flat top set up it was producing the same numbers
i didnt do any mods to the valve except flattening it.that will change soon enough
Thanks Carl. I tried plugging the formula into my excel sheet, but kept getting errors. I can do it fine on a calculator or cheat with this one........

Next up will be a cable and software from here;

I'm thinking that I would really like to be in the 400-450 range for 5 pumps. I hate pumping past 5 and for target shooting, that would be good enough. I could always switch to a .177 barrel and that would give me a few more FPS...... does the PayPal account have enough money in it remains to be seen!
The really nice thing about having this chrony is that I can now finally see with my own eyes how any change I make affect the performance. If I mess up the chrony won't lie.
Just a note on the Transformer. It was shooting right around 560-570 over Fred's chrony with the same barrel and bolt that is now on the 1322. The only thing I changed is the barrel to 24" and since I didn;t have a decent extended or flow thru bolt, I used the stock one that came with the breech.
So switching to .177, adding 9.5 inches to the length gave me 165 more FPS!!! Me likes :D Oh, ya know what I just thought of? I had an LDC on it before and today I shot it without one. Noisy little devil! I wonder if I would lose anything with one on it. Hmmm, next up the Transformer with LDC over the Chrony!!!
Rich
Hmmmm, maybe I should change my barrel from the 14" Mac1 barrel to the 24" stock barrel that I have to see how big a gain I can get :P If I do I'll post my numbers.
Now remember, I also went down to a .177 from a .22 and that is good for a few by itself.
RIch
Rich I will send you a simple spreadsheet to your eMail address so you can have one to play with.
Carl
Got it Carl, Thanks....now I see where I messed up entering the formula :-*
