Title: Bluing products
Post by: mr007s on December 23, 2011, 04:30:45 PM
A barrel from LW will need to be blued in the future. I have been looking at three products. Vans bluing, Blue Wonder, and Birchwood Casey.

Anyone have experience with any/all of these? Do you have recommendations for other products?
All ideas appreciated.

I have not used Van's bluing but have used the other two.

Biggest thing I have found is the prep work and cleaning.  Do those two tasks good and you will have a better finish.

When using the Birchwood Casey liquid try warming the barrel first.  I've found that helps a lot.  Heat gun or hair drier works to warm the metal.  Not too warm other wise the liquid evaporates to quickly.
