Title: 1377 20 yard group
Post by: burnt09 on March 09, 2012, 09:27:51 AM
Finally, some good weather! Spent all day at the range. Some .22 off the bench first, then over to the airgun range with my 1377 "carbine," (with the home-made stock). I shot the group below from a bench rest using the factory peep sight. The target was at 20 yards. Ten shots. Crosman Pointed Hunting pellets, 7 pumps. Makes me want to install a steel breech so I can mount a scope and see what it will really do.

I'm impressed.  Good shooting. But then from you I expected that kind of performance.  :)

given that the pellets you are using are not known for accurate shooting
that some great shooting!!! given what you are using for ammo!!!
very nice job!
i cant wait to see what you do with a good pellet!

My eyes are just too old for open sights on a rifle. I do OK with a pistol because it is held at arms length. Is that a 1377? If so what kind of open rear sight is that, and would I need the steel breech for it?

I think it's pretty much impossible, for anyone, to have the target and both sights in focus simultaneously,  and the older you are the worse the problem becomes. It's my understanding that your focus should be on the front sight. The rear sight and target will be out of focus. The beauty of a peep sight is that the small aperture gives your focus a greater depth of field. It's like using a small aperture on a camera for increased depth of field. They are kind of built for old eyes. Of course, peep sights aren't much good on a pistol, since your eye has to be so close to the rear aperture.

You are correct... you can only focus on one thing .... and  THE front sight needs to be the one...  :-*
if you are focused on it and the hit is not on the bull, you will see it move at the time of fire. If you don't, then your point of
focus changed.. to most likely the target...

Now that's a great group! I can't wait to get back up to Georgia and send some destroyers 20yds to a target! I am anxious to see how my 24 inch barrel will perform.

Yes,1377...sight is LPA Min that I got from B&A 3 years ago..it mounts on dove tails (steel breech)

You shot an excellent group with the 1377. It proves the gun is accurate; you just have to do your job when shhoting offhand. I am definitely going to flip a stock sight around and try the peep.

And, yes, it is most important to focus on the front sight. I think Daysailer posted on the GTA a series of groups where the front sight was not perfectly centered in the rear sight and the all the groups were tight and on target.
