Im getting ready to upgrade my 1377 by installing a steel breech, a stock, and a mil dot scope. With this setup what will be my limit on shooting starlings?
depends on a number of factors.lets start here
are you going to flat top it or leave it stock?
how many times are you going to be pumping?
Im going to leave the piston stock as of now, i might upgrade later though. I will either pump it 9 or 10 times.
heres a couple of things to help
http://www.airgunhome.com/pages/calculators.html (http://www.airgunhome.com/pages/calculators.html)
http://airgunexpo.com/calc/index.cfm? (http://airgunexpo.com/calc/index.cfm?)
you need to know pellet bc to use these calculators
lets say you are using a crosman premier
it weighs 7.9gr with a bc of .0230
lets say at 10 pumps it will get 550fps
there is alot of math input to do
but 40 yds seems to be right according to the numbers i used 50yds max
Did you have a link or something on that post because all i can see is,"heres a couple things to help".

fixed that :-[
keyboard is sensitive must have bumped something
here's another useful link
http://www.beemans.net/field%20use.htm (http://www.beemans.net/field%20use.htm)
it says 3fpe on impact fo a starling
a 1377 shooting a crosman premier lite 7.9gr @550fps-5.3fpe at the muzzle will impact target @422fps-3fpe at 50yds
i used the links i posted to get the numbers
this is assuming your 1377 is pushing 550fps at 10 pumps most do
Ok thanks alot for the information.
no problem
heres some more info on pellets.there are others that cover skirt sizes pic etc
