Hey guy's I've done a few mods to my P-Rod.
The eye to scope alignment was no existent so I decided to fit a "roll over" type comb to correctly align my eye, quite a straight forward job. Today I decided I didn't like the grip so I routed the grip flat either side and inlet/cladded with the same Mahogany so there's a smooth transition from plastic to wood and added a slight palm swell which I like. Not quite as I'd visualised it but It's growing on me. It was a pig of a job, I'm not used to working plastic and learned a few lessons along the way! :)
I might do the fore stock, don't know yet but I think it will look nice.

Then to the power plant.
I installed 4 9/16 OD o'rings as per the buffer mod I read about. Firstly, thanks to the member who went to this trouble experimenting, saving us the trouble. :-* Sorry I forget the members handle. :-[
I then installed the heavier spring I got from Gmac for my 2240. Firstly it was too long/strong giving me too high velocities for the UK limit and no adjustability, so I've shortened it today.
My shot string before shortening using Barracuda Match 5.52, (yet to run another but I'm now within the UK limit. 12fpe)
2800 psi fill. Hammer Stroke ... 1 turn CW Hammer Spring ... ½ turn CW
543 559 567 568 577 578 573 573 577 574 578 580 578
580 578 587 583 592 581 580 578 574 573 573 573 569
565 565 560 561 562 552 550 547
I've no idea the relationship between hammer spring and stroke for this buffer mod / P-rod to give the most consistent figures over the greatest pressure range and would appreciate some advice from the more experienced ??
These rules should apply to the lower velocities I require, yes?
Can't for the life of me find Barracuda's in 5.53 this side of the pond so I hope they group.
Really loopy trajectory at 11.5fpe but I'll only be shooting up to 30yrds and I think I'll remember it ok, it was my fav pellet for a long time. .... Thinking though, I might try 5.52 FTT's I think guys were getting good results from those. I can get those in 5.53, go figure!
Hmmmm.... yep, I like it! The comb is something I have not seen done in wood anywhere yet. Very unique approach :-*
Well done, and that forestock will look good inletted also :-*

Ah, good idea, I was thinking making one completely out of wood but actually I think inlaid mahogany wood be better, cheers!

I always like to try and be a different from the norm and I love wood! ;)
Nice job on the stock great idea with the wood grips and cheek rest on the stock.

I like it!!
Great job on the whole gun! :-*
Todd
The solution to the grips on the stock is fabulous. I may give that a try on my carbine.
i like it!
just enough wood in the right places! 8)
a wood forearm could be the icing on the cake.
Really nice custom work. I'd have it in a heartbeat! Can't wait to see the forearm and I also think that the mix of wood and plastic is awesome the way you have done it. :)
You're making me jealous, i want one! RBGrips makes a wood forearm for P-rods now
Thanks for the nice comments guys, I've just inlaid the fore stock, I also changed the shape at the
rear of the comb, looks a bit better now.
The picture angle makes the inlay look as if it's running up but no it's true! :)
I have some 3mm rubber sheet on the way, that will be added to the butt. A moderator adapter is also winging it's way
to me so my short Swift Mod.will be going on it. ..... It's complete then .... Then it's out to the woods. ;)

Tried three pellet makes today at 30y, barracuda 5.52 no go, think scatter gun.
RWS super domes, better but nothing special.
Accupell, great, single hole groups. I see they're now Crosman Premier Ultra Mag, ordered some more.
They're hitting nearly 1 1/2" higher than the cuda's at 30y, trajectory will be less of a prob.
I like the look of your gun! I agree the black plastic and light colored wood look great together. Adding the wood on the forestock really sets it off! :-*
that's PERFECT!!!!!! 8)
imo
thats the better than any full on wood furniture in my book
great job
im drooling on the keyboard
Thanks guys, it's real encouraging to know my work is liked. :)
It's great to tote around the woods, makes a change from hefting my Prosport!
That is one fine looking gun you got there! :)
i have been seriously thinking of getting a p-rod and wrestling with the idea because i can't really justify buying a new gun right now....just want it!!!!
I already have two spring rifles and the 1322...now I can't see any reason for me to own an air rifle! With the shoulder stock i will probably get pretty much the same accuracy as a rifle, about the same power with mods, from the P-rod plus multiple shots.
I should probably just sell them all and get the P-rod...decisions decisions
The inlay came out nice im sure many of us will be trying that on our P Rods thanks for shareing your skills.

sounds like you went with the BStaly mod (from the yellow Marauder forum).....

looks real sharp there Styks, the wood inlays in the foregrip really sets it apart from the 'unmodded' look :-*

's ok, I said about the same thing when I just owned a 2240 I was trying to find parts for and my old gamo hunter (around the time I found this forum)...when the crosman bug bit me, it got me good... after seeing all the gallery pics, I am now sporting a CCS 2300KT modded, (2) 1377's modded, my 2240 still unfinished, a Benji Trail NP, .25 Marauder and my .25 AF Condor. I gave the gamo to my brother as he didnt have an air rifle. he does own a scoped 1377 w/ 24" barrel though for nutter sniping (otherwise unmodded but plans for FT valve and piston, stock and pumper for it). I still have a P-rod coming and now thinking of picking up a big bore to fiddle with ;)

who do you have to justify it to,swmbo ???
i used to sound like you in the beginning
all about power and accuracy no bling
then i went to all bing and accuracy
now im up to high shot count mediocre power and accuracy.i dont need 30fpe to eliminate pests and plink,i sure do like what 30fpe does to some quarry though.i see videos of the UK guys doing some real good shooting with sub 12fpe guns at 40 yards.heck i made a lucky 40 yard shot with my daisy 880 and dropped my prey on the spot :o :-*
do what makes you happy and dont question it ;) :)

Hi, you won't be disappointed with the P-rod, I'm certainly not! Tbh why hump around a 9-10lb rifle when something a third of the weight will do the job, unless your built like Atlas and won't notice it !! ;D .... Regarding power as 1377x says power ain't everything, you only need 5fpe at POI to kill a rabbit. If you can hit it cleanly in the bonce at 30 - 35 yrds bar a few twitches and thumps it ain't going far. I personally wouldn't take a shot with a p-rod further than that, my be rested. In fact my friend across the village has an FAC rated air rifle, trouble is pass through's don't impart the same shock and he does better with his 12 fpe. The P-rods accurate don't get me wrong, it's not a match for my EV2 or Prosport for that matter but it ain't gonna be, it's light so less mass to make it forgiving of bad trigger technique. But I tell you this the p-rods likely to be with me in the woods more than the Prosport. :) .... Go for it mate! :-*
The Crosman bug has bitten me, I'm not packing like many guys on here but give me time! ;)
Ooops ... that sounded like I was suggesting you might have bad trigger technique. :-[
Not at all, but we've all pulled that trigger instead of squeezing occasionally, especially when we get a tad excited after a long stalk!
your post is going to make buy a p-rod
i need light weight shooters
now there is a double tube aftermarket kit available.
thats right double the air capacity
http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php/topic,33898.0.html (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php/topic,33898.0.html)
Ah, good try you nearly got me going then Ed. :P :) Thinking I must have that kit, then I kept 8) ...... I know four mags is enough hunting
lead for me but if I need more I just pop my 500cc buddy bottle in the back pack. Tbh I prefer it as is, so light.
If I want a long target session I will just get a 90deg conector and a long hose, charge my buddy to 2800psi and I have all the air I need. ;)
Now stop tempting me you Crosmanite you, I can do enough of that myself! ;D
Marcasaurus, you know you want it ! ..... Ok I'll :-X now.
Good Gaia .... I know I'm a forum goer now, look at all those emoticons! ...... Is there a tablet I can have, 50 going on 20, I'm regressing, but they are fun! :) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8) ??? :P :-[ :-X :-\ :-*
funny posts!
sometimes the smilies are better than words.i like to use them.its the internet we can be who we want be here.50 going on 20 20 going on fifty its all good
i just thought the p-rod double tube would be a cool custom piece
i could use a double tube 2240 instead of trying to make it 88g like in this thread
