Title: AgentWD40's 2300KT Pellet Test
Post by: AgentWD40_FL on January 05, 2013, 04:06:05 PM
Just received my Crosman Custom 2300KT yesterday, and thought I'd post this mornings pellet test results.

This is a brand new gun, using the very first Co2 cartridge
Only took 10 shots to zero-in the Tasco scope  --- gotta love it!
5 shots at each target
5 yards from target
Seated position with gun fully rested. (No gun vise used)

This is my first time using the Stueger and RWS Meisterkugeln pellets.  Even before shooting them, I liked them.  They fit nice and snug into the barrel when I pushed the bolt forward. The Crosman and Daisy are very loose by comparison.  Best grouping was obviously the RWS Meister's, but I really didnt have any fly-aways.  Very pleased with all except, ironically, the Crosman's.  Go figure ...  :o

Hope you enjoyed .....  :) .... and I hope you like this kinda stuff!  :-*

Thanks for the info on the pellets you tested, I'll have to get the ones I don't have yet

When the barrel is fully leaded, your groups may improve. methinks you got  good barrel. I see you tried at least one world-class pellet for your targets. That should sell you on the benefit of using the best quality pellets you can afford.

Excellent!!! I'll have to order some more pellets for my 2400. Only have the CPHP's I got for Xmas. I've shot the .177 Miester's in my M417 and 357W with great results.

Yeah, I'm really pleased with those RWS's ... and funny thing, I really didn't know what I was buying.  I just wanted a random assortment to be able to try different pellets.

I guess I'll need to investigate more 'world-class' pellets.  I also like the snug fit when those pellets were pushed into the barrel.  Never felt anything like it before.

Very please with the pistol!  Cant wait till its broke in ....  :D

A few of my pistols like the meisters. These are the ones specifically made for pistols, right?  Try the JSB Diabolo Exacts. Those are my all around favorites in .177.

The pellet test this morning was using:

Crosman 1377c
BSA 2x20 Scope

**** Sorry, no pics this time*****

Range setup was exactly as above with the 2300KT

Pellets were the same:
Crosman Wadcutter Competition
Daisy Premium Wadcutter
Stueger X-Sport Wadcutter - 7.48gr
RWS Meisterkugeln Professional Wadcutter - 7.0gr
Beeman Wadcutter - Coated - 7.8gr

-------------------------------------

I had to shoot 3 targets@5 rounds each pellet, as this gun was harder to judge which pellet was better.  After lining up the 15 targets and comparing .....

Best:
Daisy Premium Wadcutter
(Had 1 target out of 3 as 50/50 - 5X)

Very close 2nd place:
RWS Meisterkugeln Professional Wadcutter - 7.0gr

Worst:
Crosman Wadcutter Competition
(Had a couple of 8's on the 3 targets.  No other pellet came close to such wild shots.)

Its unfortunate that the Crosman pellets are taking a backseat in both guns.  I bet I have 3,000 rounds of these. I'll shoot them up when my daughter and I plink cans in the backyard. :)

I was very surprised how well the Daisy's performed!  :-*

Making a list of more pellets to purchase and test ..... :)

i found daiy's to be a very good pellet even though they are very soft and very dirty.with them being so soft that might be the key to them being a good pellet
take jsb for instance, they are a great pellet also again they are soft, not as soft as daisy but softer than crosmans which are probably the hardest lead based pellet around.
rws is harder than jsb too i have found maybe its the double lined skirt in my 2289 they did not shoot good.i was shooting the meisterkugeln's, a lot of guns like these pellets but my 2289 and 2250 shotgunned them
there are a lot of pellets out there
straightshooters has a sampler pack thats pretty good

Nope ... this one, which seems to be only 0.3gr lighter.

Yup, noticed that when I dropped one on the floor. Bent half the skirt flat.

My fingers were also pretty dirty just from handling.

I have some of those.  They shoot OK out of my 1377 but most higher priced pellets and Gamo Match Wadcutters group better.

I had some of those, they were more accurate than the newer ones above but the ones I have pictured below rivaled any I have shot.  I wonder what has changed.
Cheers,

I was looking at the H&N Match Pistol pellets (7.56gr), as well as the H&N Final Match Pistol pellets, but both are listed numerous times at PA, but with identical descriptions.  The only difference I see is SKU number ... which would indicate a difference.  Anyone know about these??

I may be missing something obvious ... if so, please point it out to me. LOL

Head size diameter is different. Those shooting for utmost accuracy usually find, through trial and error, the perfect head size diameter for their particular gun. Some companies do not produce pellets with different head diamters. H&N is one of the few who do. You wold be suprised that .01mm can actually make a huge difference. This is a part of airgunning that also drains your wallet and no seems to remember to mention it.

Ahhhhh ...... ok, thanks!  I'll have to go back and see if there is a blurb somewhere on each entry for head sizes.

Ya, I can see how buying all the different flavors of pellets could get expensive. At least I've kept it narrowed to wadcutters.  :)

thats what is good about the sampler pack from straightshooters
it has most if not all the good commercial brands in it you can try a vast majority of them and the ones you dont like there wont be a tin of them left over collecting dust

"Stueger X-Sport Wadcutter - 7.48gr"

I believe those offered by Stoeger are made by H&N.
