So should I wait until the steel breeches are back in stock, or spring for a custom? My 2260 simply needs a solid scope mount but I am thinking of hot-rodding my 2240 with a longer barrel and shoulder stock, etc.
I emailed a few custom shops but haven't gotten any replies yet.
Steve if your in a hurry order the .177 breech all you need is a .22 probe the breechs are the same except for the probe so if you have a .22 probe order the .177 one hope this helps you been there done that :)

Go with the Crosman breech. Mac1 has them in stock. I received one today; ordered it on Tuesday. While browsing his store, you might find some other goodies for your pistol. I also picked up a hammer spring guide and an extended probe bolt.

Looks like there in stock too. :-*
I was going to order one from Crosman, but backed out after they wanted close to $17.00 for Shipping! ...tnpaw
Call their customer support phone number 1-800-724-7486 and ask to place an order. Shipping is usually around $4. I did have to pay $11 once for a breech when I ordered a 1377SBPK and the salesperson told me it was a product rather than a part. The next one I ordered was a 2400SBPK and it came with the rest of my order; $4 shipping for the whole order.\YMMV
Cheers,
FYI - The Crosman breech I received this past week from Mac1 is just a breech. No screws (except for the barrel retaining set screw), end cap or bolt. I did not know this when I ordered it.
