Store with a pump or 2?

New to pump air guns (actually air guns in general). Have read in a couple of places that pump air guns should be left with a pump or two when you put them away.

Is this true in general for all multiple pump guns or just some where the admonition is actually spelled out--like in some (but not all) pump gun ads at Pyramyd.com?

from what I understand is it helps keep debris out of the valve. I leave a pump in all mine, my Sheridan is a 1973 and still shoots great.

Yes.. for the 13XX guns 2 pumps, Benjamin and higher power guns, 1 is fine, 2 won't hurt. Daisy guns warn against this because, almost every Daisy pumper requires cocking before pumping (diff valve and hammer setup) still.. 1 or 2 pumps is needed. Daisy "lawyers" don't want it because the guns are cocked and a trigger pull will fire a pellet if it's left in the breech. Crosman guns don't need cocking to pump.

Don't forget a few drops of Pellgunoil every 50 or 60 rounds.

A pump or two left in the gun is good for the seals and also as bgmcgee said for keeping stuff out of the valve.
