Thoughts on a trip to the USA

Hi

I am going to Texas for work next month and after BDS's thread on price differences it got me thinking......

I would like a backpacker & they seem very cheap (to us in the UK) in Walmat, could I buy one and put in hold luggage? Has anyone done this or know who I could ask (customs/airline?).

Or if that's too tricky, buy & post to myself, or just try to find a shop that sells upgrades like steel breech, probe & stoks & then but the 1377 at home?

I guess other question is backpacker ftlbs question as must be 6ftlbs or below as removable butt for UK legalities.

Any and all thoughts appreciated

I recently flew and I'm pretty sure that I saw a sign that said you have to declare any "firearms" that are in checked luggage.  You might want to look at www.tsa.gov. They should tell you there.  With the current sensitivity with anything gun related here, you may be better off packing parts instead of something that looks like a G-U-N.

Baz... UPS and FedEx both ship international, why not just ship it to yourself?

Also, check in with Gary (Droid) as he seems to move a lot of airgun product into the UK and I'm sure he would have ideas?

another problem your going to have is finding the backpacker i don`t know of any stores that carry them in store Walmart doesn`t you can only get then online orders .Thats going to be a problem for you

WalMart does Site-to-Store. Your order on-line but pick it up at your nearest WalMart store. That's the way I got mine. Your problem won't be so much about getting it OUT of the U.S. but more about getting it IN to the U.K. I'd check with the British Customs service and the British equivalent of our BATF&E (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives). On this end, a lot will depend on if the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) considers airguns to be firearms. Declared firearms are legally transported in a passenger's checked luggage. It might be advisable to research the supporting regulations on-line and carry a copy with you for the "uninformed". Additionally, you may wish to purchase some theft insurance. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you try to board with your new BackPacker in it's "bugout backpack. I'm just sayin'. Flex

Here in Texas we have a sporting goods store called academy... Every other one that I have been to have the backpackers in stock for $60-80 USD, if I'm not mistakin.

What part of Texas are you headed to? I'm in the Houston area, and can tell you where to find some of the stores in the area if you are in fact coming here.

Thank you all, after a bit of googling I'm thinking either buy and shipping home or if doesn't seem practical maybe buying some upgrade parts only and packing in luggage.
