Two pellet traps, one remodel and one new

I currently use a pellet trap I made out of wood with duct seal and recently was given a thick metal electrical junction box for a second trap.

I can't find a picture of my home-made trap, but it's a typical wood trap, painted with a clip to hold targets and it's deeper than most I've seen.

Here is the new one:

I removed the small plate inside it.
My plan is to take the "heavily pelleted" duct seal out of the old one and put it in the new one above and put these garden hose pieces into the old one:

My wife also bought me a 2' x 2' carpet square I am going to hang in front of the hoses. The carpet square is really rigid though, so I was thinking of maybe cutting it into 2-3' vertical strips so it has some "give". Do you guys think this would be a good idea?

We will mostly shoot only light guns at it (P-17, 1377, 2240) but occasionally I might shoot my Gamo Hornet which packs a bunch. Chrony'd at 870-880 or so.
I could always just shoot the Gamo at the new duct seal trap, but I plan to drill two holes in the wood sides of the old one, push a rod through and hang small spinners. I'd miss out on that fun if I didn't shoot at that trap.

Bottom line I guess is, do you guys think cutting the carpet into strips is a good plan?

Sounds good to me. Are you planning to stagger them or just side by side.My thinking is staggering them would add more surface area to the carpet and it might last longer.

I didn't think of it, but that sounds like a great idea. Thanks.

Edit: Anyone have a good way to hang carpet strips in a limited space? Maybe bend 1/2" on one end at 90 degrees and staple gun them to the wooden top of the trap?   ???

the carpet square its the kind with a rubber backing right? i tried that stuff as a backer before had pellets bounce off it.must have some hard glue they used to put the backing on
how would you turn a 2'x2' into a 3' piece? 3'x?
