Depends heavily on what you mean by "better".  For accuracy, probably the 1377, although you can get a really good 2240 if you are lucky.  For ease of use, probably the 2240, although keeping a stock of CO2 cartridges can be a bit of a pain.  And then we get to the question of modifications and what they do to "better".

;D well there are an endless number of factors involved in trying to answer that.  And in the end, you'll never get an answer because each has it own merits and it's disadvantages.  But judging by your question, I'll guess that this is your first air gun.  So I would say, get the 1377.  It's a great first air pistol.

You need to define "better".

a) for what? (paper targets, squirrels, pop-cans?) b) for who? (you or friend or GF/Wife, maybe kids?) c) for when? (year 'round, summer only or heated shooting area?)

You might think of it as the same question but related to vehicles, "what's better, an F-150 or Ford Escape? (see a, b & c)

Regardless, both pistols are inexpensive and are a good value but, they both will need some DIY tuning and polishing to be decent shooters.

Is it snowing where you live? If it's snowing, get the 1377 for winter and the 2240 for summer. Do you live in the great outdoors where the noise won't bother the neighbors?  My neighbor lives about 200ft from me across the street and he can hear me shooting the 2240 in my garage with the door down.  The 2240 is loud. The 1377 is much quieter. Get both. ???

Yep,can't go wrong with getting both.If you catch the virus that causes "Crosmanitis" you might end up building  a few of each. ;D In my opinion one is not "better" than the other. As the guys have stated,it all comes down to intended purpose.I favor the 1377/1322,because I use them for smacking Squirrels, and the cold weather involved during the season makes this a must.

Three ways to decide.
1.  If you have a friend with one or the other, get the same.
2. Caliber- .177 is usually more accurate, pellets are cheaper, and more variety is often available.  177 Pellets move faster than .22 pellets, but have less energy because they are lighter.
3. CO2 VS pump.  Pump is adjustable by varying the number of pumps, and will be a little cheaper to shoot.   Pumping a multipump gun will result in fewer shots per outing.  It doesnt really have to, but probably will.  You really do get used to the pumping, but it is a lot of pumping.
FINALLY!
Just throw your hands up in hte air, and buy one of each.

Depends if you are lazy like me. If you are then 2240 all the way.

But you will regret buying only one so be safe and buy both.

Yup, they will, one way or the other, spawn and the next thing you'll know you'll have the "fever" then full blown "Crosmanitis"
It ain't like it used to be but, eh, it's do.

Which is better is sort of the proverbial "Ford versus Chevy" debate.

As stated earlier, and highly recommended, just get one each and be done with it.
