Spanner bit.  In the past I have made a few by cutting a notch in the center of a flat blade screwdriver.

That is about what I was thinking. We have a Harbor Freight here in town. I was going to go there and see if I could find a wide screwdriver to shape. Thanks for the info.

If you have a small angle grinder the spanner for removing the wheels can be modified for removing the valve. Or clamp two screwdrivers in the vise (tips facing up) about 3/16" apart to clear the valve stem. Then put the valve on it and turn it off by hand. It might be stuck on with Crud-loc TM  so a few groans might be in order.

Thanks for the tips. Haven't gotten around to taking it apart yet. Been working on the bedroom remodel. Plus, I still have a 1300 completely torn apart I still have to put back together.
