end of season tune up

well its coming to  the end of the UK camping season and soon the squirrels will have some rest as we close the campsite for the winter

Im going to have a final end of season tune up  as
ive bough a crony F1....Great bit of gear...its made of solid metal,,,, its made in a country with a solid hunting tradition and its GREEN!!
im going to align the ports and replace the crappy valve fixing screw,i might drill out the GMA hollow probe some and re-crown the barrel end
Any more suggestions ....im not  gonna open the valve as its not leaking and working fine by me



Im off to work in a winter campsite so im going to buy a p700w  HPA........i know its not C02 but it will be minus 10-17oC

the 2240 will emerge in spring...possibly with a 18" barrel if i can offord a bigger plastic case

Pretty much why I ended up with an F-1 when thrashing over which chronograph to get, GREEN being the closer.        You have probably heard how to give it "Alpha" functionality with a couple of dollars (£) of momentary switch and mini-jack.

Looks like a good over winter tuneup plan.

   Also do a quick search over on the GTA, one of the guys put together a some mini jack to USB cables like the ones you buy from Chrony Connect, and a simple spreadsheet that will grab the data from the free version of Chrony Connect. I personally own the full version, but I have been tinkering with writing some software to grab the data from the comm port to pull into a CSV file so it can then be imported into any software you wish. I'm working from the Mac side, and will most likely port it over to Linux, then see how much effort it would take to do a Windows port. All Open Source so the whole community can have some decent software to do the basics for free with a cable, and the instruction for making the cables are already out there.

For what it's worth, I have had my F1 for several years, and one of the first things I did was take a mini headphone jack, and wire it to a momentary switch as mentioned to get shot strings, high, low, and average FPS or MPS depending on where you reside.

yes thanks for that,when im fed up of clearing snow i will set up an indoor range and it would be nice to go high tech with the results via a jack.

as i wait 3o sec between shots due to the low ambient temp ive always got time to pick up a pencil,drinks some tea and the take another shot which is kinda relaxing and "fail-proof " low tech

I downloaded the free version of ChronoConnect a few months ago.  Very nice looking display.  I wired up a USB cable like this:

Used the same connector (looks identical), but have not been able to get it working.  Seems to be some Windows 10 driver issue.  Tried another drivers (utterly baffled by driver details), then had a "comm port" but did not get the result expected.

May buy the CC cable.

in a " previous life" i was quite techy and that might explain why i now run a campsite

but i might look into this

ps ive been shooting ball bearings at the Crony via a slingshot to see what foot pounds i get!!!! ( it must be a phase all new Chrony owners go through )

     They are a ton of fun aren't they UK. Craig, check the chip set in your cable, there were some knock offs being sold, and MS in their infinite wisdom broke one of the older drivers to only work with the "official" manufactures chips. They had rolled it back in Win 7, but may have killed them again in the past year or so.

Great DIY recrown
spent the afternoon with a drill,n8 brass domed slotted screw and some valve cutting compound making a better crown on my 2240...after a bit of research ,moved the brass head around whilst turning to avoid forming a rough triangle in the crown, q-tip test all fine.A gentle smoothing of the barrel port inside the barrel,a good clean of the rifling,an extra large head on the valve fixing screw.all done

now its great for head shots at 15 yards and no spread with different pellets at such a close range.

went out to celebrate and bagged myself 2 late season squirrel

best 2 hours work ive done in a long time

     I second that. Anytime I get to shoot mine it's a great stress relief not to mention just plain fun!
