Longer barrel for my 1377?

I'm considering adding a longer barrel to my 1377, making into a sort of pump air rifle.  What would be the advantage of the longer barrel length?  Is it worth the $89 upgrade, when for about the same money I can buy a new pump rifle?

I have a 1377 with short barrel and a stock.  I'll most likely add a longer barrel.

I put an 18 inch long (.177) barrel on my 2240 and it was a great addition.

But without the stock, I prefer the normal length barrel.

My barrel cost far less than $80 but it was a Crosman barrel.

Longer barrel will give you more velocity and is a pretty common modification.

$89 is really high for a Crosman barrel even in Canada...where do you live?

I live in New Mexico. 

The $85 (not $89) is from Alliance Hobby.  It includes the barrel, a new barrel band, front sight, and shoulder bolt -- the big boy kit.  http://alliancehobby.com/bigboykit.htm  According to them all that is needed, except perhaps the shoulder bolt.

I would recommend getting some of your parts from Crosman and some or all from Davio he has much better parts for a lower price than that place you are looking at.

For me, it's like this; long enough for the performance (fps, fpe) needed (wanted), and short enough for the "handiness" needed (wanted).    And for a carbine (and again for me) that typically is the 14.6 Crosman barrel (about $12 - $13).  Add other bits and pieces needed now and likely wanted later, and pay a flat rate shipping charge of $4.00.

For a "standar " pistol, the 10".  And for a rifle, the 18" or the 24".

I have a 19" .177 barrel on my Mountain Air 1750. Why did I choose 19" you say? No reason - just a random length for the hell of it. In the warmer months it zips 7.9 CPs at over 790 fps with dead-on accuracy out to 40 yards but in the colder months it seems like a completely different gun (for the worse, unfortunately).

Where in New Mexico? I am also a resident of NM, but originally from the Philippines. I have not seen nor heard of any airgunners around this area  I have no airgun as of now, left them all behind..I shoot powderburners now but CAPOF is still where I dwell most of the time, lol!

I also live in Santa Fe,         Texas 77510.   Small town between Houston and Galveston.  We are about 15 miles inland from the Gulf Of Mexico depending on the tide or storm surge from a Hurricane.
