I'm considering using my Crooked Barn breech for a Stubby project.

Whos bolt/probe are you using - D.C., GMAC, SD Custom, etc.

I'd prefers a polished/stainless if possible but want a nice fit. The Crosman and Ultimate Bolt are a little slippy.

I use one in a 2240.  But I'm using a Mellon Air flow thru bolt that fit quite snugly at first. I did smooth out the bolt hole using very very fine sand paper. Just a little and now works quite smoothly.  You can buff and polish the CB breech like any good aluminum rim, manifold, etc. for the bling.
I also run the Cothran Machine stainless breech and they are what they are.  Instal and enjoy the fit and finish, outstanding.  And they come with an extended bolt and associated hardware so it's really not that pricey.

If it's not broken then modify it!

My first aftermarket breech was a Crooked Barn. The tolerances were very large, especially the probe bore. I have since traded it for a Crosman steel. Don't see me buying a second CB.

I just ordered a SS breech from Don Cothran and am eagerly awaiting its arrival. I know he is 'covered up', but, I sm certain, it will be worth the wait. I chose this breech over the CB breech because of the immense positive feedback about Don's breeches. I read a few threads about hitches with the CB breech and just wanted to buy one that just plain worked out of the box.

I've had two CB breeches. I like them but to tell you the truth I like the Crosman Long steel breech better. I ended up with both of my CB's on my 13xx guns as I think they are a perfect look for them. Next 2240 project is going to sport a repeater of some kind.

All in all, if you like the hex design (I do), go for it. Oh, a stock sized  bolt is a little sloppy on the CB, I made my own and can't recall off the top of my head just how much larger I made it, but .258" pops into my head (stock is .250"). I also made the bolt handle a few thousands oversize to secure it when locked down. I'm thinking Mellon could fix you up with a custom bolt and handle if you want to get that close, though he may need the breech in hand to do it right. Just another thought.
