Anyone use shooting sticks?

I've contemplating them for some future hunts. Seen a chap on YouTube do a how-to on making your own. Think I might give that a go before buying a nice set.

I have Scotty there good in the field and you can also use them for walking stick and my old ass needs them for that.

Very light in weight too.I do use them with a pistol too just move the band up and bam there you go.

OK... think I'll go out to the garden store and hopefully they will still have some garden stakes so I can make my own.

I got some garden stakes from Lowes and made a set but quickly found out they are not all that easy to carry when you are hunting in the woods. They are quite cumbersome. But they do give your gun some good stability.

I finally ended up with a bought collapsible bipod that works better than the sticks and much easier to carry.

I've been checking out the collapsable ones. My concern is the ruggedness. I've read a few reviews of certain ones not staying locked and collapsing on the owner. Was thinking of making my own since I do walking sticks. It would be a monopod tho. Something similar to this hiker I did for a client. I would just have to fashion a 'U' shaped topper for it. Like a thumbstick in a way.

I just made me a set of 4 foot and 6 foot today.I made the 6 foot one for squirrels and the one that is 4 is for wabbits.I used a bike inner tube on mine.

I used two fiberglass ski poles.Light and strong.

That was one of my concerns as well but after using it for a season I can report that there are no problems. This one uses latches like you find on good camera tripods. The other nice thing is the strap and the rotating 'V' for the gun rest.

That's a really cool stick there!

I've gotta a Rasta stick that I bought from a guy called Winston in Jamaica that looks just like that one but with dreads and a fuller tan!
The dreads are actually the roots and they splay out in a way you can rest on it like a hospital crutch. I suppose you could rest a rifle on it!

Normally I see people carry two sticks that can be deployed as a quick rest. They're just bound at the top and stay up once you
become the third leg. 2 bamboo garden canes do the job, cheap and durable.

Thanks for the compliments on my carving. This one went to a 50ish year old lady who broke her leg last year. She's going to south America in November and wanted a hiking stick to help her along. She seen a woodspirit I dud for my son and wanted something similar. Guess I'll see what I can come up with and whether or not I like it before I invest in one.
