If I order a 1377 flat top valve and piston from Mellon air do I have to do anything to the inside of the valve or can I just install it?

Should be able to just install it unless you want a lighter spring.  However, I would take it apart and double-check that there is no foreign object before putting it in.  I had one that didn't want to pump up.  When I opened the pump handle for the second pump, there was still pressure on it and it never got harder than the first pump.  When I disassembled it, there was a small shiny speck in it that didn't let the inlet valve close.  Before installing it is the best time to clean the insides and lube the o-ring.  It might have prevented me from having to take mine back apart yet again.
Nothing against Charlie Mellon, that could happen to anyone.  Judging from the amount of business he does and his reputation, (not to mention the looks of my office,) that speck probably got in the inlet hole after I unpacked it or during my assembly process but if I had checked, I would have known when it got there and would have known if it was my trash or my lack of cleanliness during assembly.

x2 to Jerry's post above. This is a good time to clean and relube.

I am running two of Mellon's flat top setups. They were drop in replacements that worked without adjustment. There is no need to tear into the valve he supplies. After a month or so, you may need to tweak the piston a little.

Save your valve. I flat-topped one of mine and bought a piston from Charlie to use in my 1377>1322 conversion.

Should you lube the o-ring on the outside of the valve before sliding it in the tube and if you need to what do you lubricate it with?

Pellgun oil or 30wt non-detergent oil.

After you get the old valve out ,which end of the air tube do you install the FT valve from or does it make a difference?I was going to install mine from the butt end using the old barrel to push it in by.Will this work?

I think you push it out with a tool from the back towards the friction pin side.

Your 1377 tube has an intent that serves as a stop to keep the valve from moving toward the rear of the gun when you pump extreme pressures. You can not install the valve from the breech end due to this feature. Make certain the I.D. of your tube is free of burrs, especially at the slot for the pump arm.
