scope ring height ?

when using a scope with a 40 mm or 44 mm objective end on a crosman pistol with the steel breech will medium height rings provide enough clearance from the barrel ? or are high rings needed ? i'm pretty sure something 50 mm or bigger needs the high rings . correct ?
