Received my 2300KT late one afternoon from the man in the Brown Van.
It was getting towards Dark, but I had time to shoot a bit......
Dropped a co2 cartridge into the gun. It seemed like the force needed to tighten the Filler Cap was excessive, but I figured that was because the gun was new. I shot through that first CO2 cartridge and went through one more before it got too dark to see.

The next day, I took my gun to work with the intention of showing it off and letting the Guys shoot it a bit at Break Time. Inserted the CO2 cartridge and tightened the filler cap, but the needle would not pierce the cartridge. I took the cartridge out of the gun and observed a deep dimple in the CO2 cartridge, but not deep enough to pierce the cartridge. "Defective cartridge," I thought, and loaded another. Same result as before. The Needle did not pierce the cartridge.

Called Crosman Customer Support. Told them what happened. They said it was because I did not read the Manual and did not put a drop of PEL Oil on the CO2 cartridges. They say the oil helps the needle to pierce the cartridge and to stay sharp when it does so. Apparently this oil is not included with the purchase of a new gun.

OK.......I did NOT read the manual......Guilty as charged.....They GOT me.......   :(
However......What a bunch of B.S. that explanation was.....I ruined the gun by inserting the THIRD cartridge without Pel Oil?!?  ....  The gun was still occasionally dieseling from the leftover assembly oil, and I did not feel the need to add More oil to the equation. ???

I will be sending the gun to Crosman for repair. They may or may not fix it under Warranty. I will just have to wait and see.

Red you only need to tighten the cap only finger tight.  To much pressure will damage the seal.  There will be a gap between tube and cap.  It won't be screwed all the way in like it would be without a cartridge in it.  My guess is you mushroomed the rubber seal and it won't let the piercing needle through.  FINGER TIGHT ONLY.  Don't feel bad it has happen to a lot of people.  I hear some people use screw drivers to tighten the cap.  A big NO NO.

They really should put a big sticker somewhere that says "OIL". Too many new people are buying C02 guns and not knowing to put oil on the cart. I admit I didn't read my 2300 instructions but I knew better from my first purchase with AGD. I bought a Colt Defender BB pistol and the instructions were so small you would have needed a magnifying glass to read them. I popped a cart in and the thing leaked for ten seconds then stopped. It did it with every cart. I contacted them and they replaced it without question. Hopefully Crosman will take care of you. From the looks of that cartridge it seems like theres more going on then just a lack of oil problem.

Well, at least posting your story here will help out a CO2 newbie like myself with a gun on order. I had heard about a need to put oil on every other cart, but now I know what can happen.  :o

Red dont feel bad your not the first person this has happened to. Did you ever see the video PA did on the 2240 and this guy is suppose to no his s%^t.
If crosman dont honor your warranty or if you don't want to wait i have a good valve i will swap you for yours. I will replace the seal its not that hard at all.

Treat people the way you want to be treated, Life will be so much better !!!

My god Mike that video just is something else.  The part of him loading the cartridge is funny.  Like you said he is suppose to know his stuff.  I have a QB78 co2 rifle and with it you tighten the cap until it pierces the cartridge then back the cap off till you can't turn the cap.  If you can turn the cap more then a couple turns out  then you didn't pierce the cartridge and tighten it some more.  It is then ready to shoot.  So each type of gun may have different ways of loading co2 cartridges.  Crosman should have a tag attached right to the cap for the first time user so they can know how to do it correctly.  Otherwise there is no way of knowing just by looking at the gun.

I couldn't take it, I had to post a response. Although I appreciate PA's customer service and the fact that they provide useful videos, this one is just irresponsible.

I spoke to another Crosman Customer Service Rep today before I sent in my gun. She told me that the gun should not have failed the way it did, even though I did not use the Pellet Gun Oil before inserting a cartridge. She told me that there was no way I could have Buggered the needle with only 2 or 3 cartridges, especially as the gun is new and arrives over-lubricated from the factory. This Woman told me that it is definitely a warranty and that they would even return my gun with a free tube of Pellet Gun Oil....Lol.

I don't know who to believe,,,,Customer Rep#1,,, or Customer Rep# 2.... ???.....I guess I will find out in a few weeks, when they ship it back to me....

On a Side note and for the Record,,, I did not use a Tool on the Filler Cap.....Also,,,I have never had this sort of problem when inserting cartridges into my Gamo pistol. I have used oil in THAT very sparingly. Just enough to keep the seal pliable. That seal lasted 10 years before I had to replace it.  I am thinking that I just got a BUM needle, or that something was mis-aligned, or something of that nature.

Also.....I take Full Responsibility for that I did not RTFM. >:(....I should Know Better that to Leap Before I Look.
If they have to charge me for the repair,,,It will be my Own fault.....

RTFM? ???
Hmm... Is that "Read The F------ Manual" ;D or I'm I way off base?

I'd believe C-Rep#2. Crosman guns and metal parts are bathed in oil.

Calling Crosman Custumer Support and getting promised something is okay, as long as you record the conversation.
Emailing Crosman Customer Support and getting a reply stating said promise is better. It leaves and elctronic paper trail.

I believe they will take care of it. Just curious Red, did they give you a shipping # (they're paying) or are you shipping it back at your expense?

Thanks for the Offer Mike. I THOUGHT about just fixing it myself, (probably woulda been a faster solution) but it's the Principle of the thing. The whole situation, especially after my conversation with Cust Rep#1, kinda Ticked me off,,,,,so I want Crosman to Fix it.........

On a side note: I saw that video a before and it made me Laugh. Aside from the fact that he shouldn't use a tool to tighten the filler cap....That Screwdriver is Longer than the gun. He's lucky he didn't Slip and Stab himself in the hand. They really need to Re-shoot that video.....Lol

The Crosman Warranty Center was Good to Me!.....
They fixed my Pistol without a complaint (no charge) and they even sent me some extra Goodies for Free :D
In the Box with my gun was included a repair order saying what they replaced (new valve) and that they Tested the gun by Dry firing 2-3 times to pierce the Cart and make sure all was well.
They sent me a free tube of Pel Oil and a tin of .22 cal pellets, (not sure why they sent .22 pellets with a .177 gun,,,,,but I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth ;).) Also got a nice full color Catalog of all the 2012 Crosman/Benjamin products,,,,which makes great reading material in the Loo.....lol

The gun works Great!.....I finally got to experience what the term Tack Driver means.......Shot 4-5 pellets through the same hole (bench rest) while I was sighting in the Red Dot scope.  :-\ MMMMmmmm,,,,,Lothar Walther Barrel,,,,,MMMmmm  :-\

Glad you got in straightened out. The extras they sent says a lot, both good and bad.
